Preparing Your Teens For Adulthood

Teens know everything, right? So, it only makes sense that they’re ready to tackle the world at the tender age of 16.   Today, we’re sharing parenting tips on preparing teens for adulthood.  Next, they think they have all the knowledge and skills necessary not just to survive, but thrive in the big bad world. However, as parents we know the truth. Sure, there are some things that your child may have learned in school that weren’t available to us. These days schools are teaching Computer Science, Parenting, and more advanced classes on Government and Politics.

“Don’t be in such a hurry to grow up. Trust me, life will still be there when you’re grown.” Wise words from my Grandma Blanche.

However, there are some key fundamental skills your child that you must implement in preparing your teens for adulthood.  Teens should be equipped  before leaving the nest – whether going off to college or moving out on their own.

Let’s discuss a few of these skills:

Grocery shopping – When our kids got their driver’s license, one of their new chores was going to the grocery store with cash. This taught them:

  1. Comparison shopping
  2. Budgeting
  3. Communication skills (you know teens don’t talk! Lol)
  4. Checking account maintenance – The one class I really wish schools would make mandatory are banking basics. When our kids turned 14, we opened a High School Checking Account. With our names on the account, our kids knew not to get crazy with their bank card.

As a result, each month we reviewed the bank statement together and discussed future payouts. This was a huge help!

Stay In Learning Mode – This skill is crucial to your child’s growth! With or without a college degree, your child must know that learning is a life-long activity. Once they leave college learning doesn’t stop.

Next, one of the most important parts of learning is knowing who to learn from. Teens learn more from other teens. Also, as adults they need to know what they need to learn, and who would be best to learn from. This quote is so appropriate: “You don’t know what you don’t know, until you need to know it.” – Unknown

The best skill you can teach your teen is discernment. Help them understand how important it is to surround themselves with like-minded people, people who have similar lifestyle goals in mind.

Finally, your teen may not listen to you, but when in the company of other young people who are working toward a similar future they can teach and learn from each other.  “Each one. Teach one.” – an African Proverb.

Kindergarten Matching Activities

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on kindergarten matching activities.  Matching activities help enhance children’s logic.  As a result, we’ve added two more games to our collection of educational games for kindergarteners. Fortunately, matching games are fun.  But, most importantly they help stimulate the mind.  Preschoolers and kindergarteners learn to work on their problem solving skills too.

So, our focus is on toddler boys for this post. All little boys love Super Heroes and sports matching activities will entertain them on rainy days.  Or, long enough for you to get a chore or two done around the house.  There’s Batman, Superman, Cat Woman and more on the Super Hero game.  And, football, baseball, soccer and more on the sports game. Get those pencils sharpened and get ready for some fun with your toddler.

Kindergarten Matching Activities:

Matching items/objects helps to develop your child’s logic and make connections as well.  It also helps them to develop the desire to learn and builds a solid foundation for success.  Early childhood development puts children on a clear path for success in Kindergarten and beyond.

Helping your child to acquire logic skills is essential in helping them establish a solid foundation for higher  education too. It’s never too late to start enhancing your child’s skills.  This is especially important if they will be entering will be starting preschool or kindergarten in the fall.  We all want our children to enter the classroom with a good foundation, and we all know that it starts at home.

Learning should be fun. Children like to learn from objects and features that they’re familiar with.  These printables contain superhero worksheet and sports worksheet.  Boys love super heroes and sports. Superman, Flash and Spider-Man are ready to help your little one enhance their logic skills.  Being able to determine differences as well as items that match is part of establishing a solid foundation in early childhood development.  Be sure to print our delicious and colorful cupcake printable too

Bearoy Back Seat Organizer Review

car organizer

car organizer, backseat organizers

How many times have you taken a road trip and you’ve ended up struggling to reach an item or you have a screaming child in the backseat who wants something. I travel frequently. Sometimes I drive and other times I fly. Either way, I’m on the road to my destination or the airport. If I’m traveling with my grandchildren, one or the other ends up wanting a snack, drink, electronic device or some other object that I can’t reach from the front seat if I’m driving or can barely reach if I’m a passenger.

When I was contacted to review the Bearoy Organizer I jumped at the chance. I had actually been shopping for an organizer and tray, so the timing was perfect.  This is a picture of the organizer hanging in the backseat of my car. I love that the 8 year can easily access the organizer and retrieve items for both him and his sister when needed.

Image-Car-Organizer

This is an up close of the organizer in the back of my car. As you can see, the organizer is a nice size and holds lots of items.  I grabbed the items that I normally take to keep the children occupied when I’m driving.  There’s a drink for the 8 year old, the 4 year old has a cup holder on her car seat, but there is room for both of their cups.  I love the pockets, they’re insulated so drinks will stay cold. or baby’s bottle warm.

I have the Kindle in the picture, but it’s large enough for the iPad and the Samsung Galaxy too. We normally carry 2 Kindles and either the Samsung tablet or iPad. The pocket has an opening on both sides to plug in headphones or a charger. I love that feature. The kids run down every electronic device that they can get their hands on. We always have a device on a charger. I have a charging station in the console of the car and truck, so the side openings are perfect. I also love that I can keep the tablets in a central location, and not wonder where they are later.

Lets not forget snacks.  Lemon Heads and peanut butter crackers are a must. Books will easily fit into the bottom pocket.  I pack coloring and reading books as well as crayons for the little one. There’s also 3 pencil holders for pencils, pens and markers for the 8 year old, he loves word search puzzles.

If your wondering about the fit, don’t. The organizer fits over the headrest and adjust easily. I highly recommend the Bearoy Luxury Backseat Organizer.

Note: I received the Bearoy Organizer in return for this review; however, all opinions are my own.

Cheesy Pizza Sticks Recipe for Kids

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on cheesy pizza sticks recipe.  Cheesy Garlic Pizza Sticks make a tasty snack for your kids and great appetizers when you’re entertaining guests. They are very easy to make and are a true crowd-pleaser.

So, I love to make these delicious pizza sticks because they go great with beer. Unfortunately, I am on this interesting week diet plan, that doesn’t allow me to drink beer during this period.  However, that means more for my dear friends and kids.

cheesy pizza sticks recipe

Fortunately, there probably isn’t a living person that is not a fan of pizza and there are a lot of reasons for that. Pizza is yummy, you can order it in a lot of amazing restaurants around the world or you can decide to stay inside your cozy home and make it. The best part about pizza is that the ingredients can be altered to fit anyone’s dietary needs. That means that if you change the ingredients in the recipe shown below you can easily make vegetarian or gluten free pizza sticks that are equally tasty. You can place on top of the pizza crust literally anything you prefer!

Additionally, you can always save some extra sticks for your next meal. So, make sure you store them properly so you can reheat them and enjoy them the next day.

Cheesy Pizza Sticks Recipe:

  • 1 pizza crust
  • 3.5 ounce feta cheese
  • 3.5 ounce of parmesan or your favorite cheese
  • 1 Tbsp.  oregano
  • olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame with sea salt

Directions:

  1. Pure a little bit of olive oil on top of the crust and spread it equally all over it.
  2. Sprinkle a little bit salt and pepper .
  3. Cut the feta cheese into squares and grind it.
  4. Spread the cheese on the crust
  5. Sprinkle garlic powder and sesame with sea salt on top.
  6. Bake the crust in a preheated oven at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
  7. Cut it into thin pieces.

These pizza sticks should be eaten hot, but I personally don’t mind eating them after a few hours when they are already cold, too.

Last, I hope you enjoy making this easy and fun Cheesy Garlic Pizza Sticks. This recipe will save you a lot of prep time in the kitchen and you kids and guests will love it.
