Swim Classes for Kids and the Benefits

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on swim classes for kids.  While most people know how to swim, few people think about actually getting swimming lessons. That’s especially true of anybody with kids, as they often overlook the opportunity. Either that, or they decide to teach their kids themselves.

Though that’s an understandable approach, it may not be the best one. Instead, you could be better off getting your children swimming lessons. You might be wondering why you should shell out the money for classes rather than teaching them.

Aside from saving you some time – you can do other things as your kid learns – there can be quite a few different reasons to get swim classes.

Swim Classes for Kids and Benefits

Swim Classes Teach Water Safety

While swim classes are primarily focused on learning to swim, they also teach water safety. Many aspects of this can be obvious, but they wouldn’t be to a child. As a result, the lessons could provide  practical benefits that you may be aware of.

These water safety rules will stick with them through life, which will make them much safer around any body of water. That’ll provide a significant amount of peace of mind, both for you and your child. That could be one of the most positive benefits behind the swim classes, as your children’s safety is paramount.

Strengthen Your Lungs

One of the first things that any swimmer learns is how to control their breath. They’ll obviously need to hold their breath for periods of time. While this might be short at first, it will be longer and longer over time.

The practice is proven to strengthen your lungs and increase your lung capacity. That’s true regardless of what age you are. As a child, that could have much larger benefits over time. Once this happens, there should be more physical benefits, such as allowing blood and oxygen to pump more efficiently.

Reduces Stress

What many people don’t realize is that swimming can help reduce stress and anxiety. While that’s primarily true of recreational swimming, it’s also true with classes. When they’re learning, they’ll be in a supportive environment with like-minded individuals.

That support could also help reduce stress. Once they’ve learned how to swim, your child will then be able to take full advantage of the skill. They’ll be much more active, which typically makes people healthier and happier.

Couple that with the other advantages associated with regular exercise, and your child’s physical and mental health should see positive benefits.

Last, there can be quite a few other reasons why you should put your kids in swim classes rather than teaching them yourself. The end result will naturally be the same, but professional classes will do so in a much more efficient and disciplined manner.

Classes could also mean that your child will be a much stronger swimmer. You can still bond by swimming with them recreationally and encourage them to keep learning. Like many other things, however, teaching them might be best left to the professionals.

What’s stopping you from signing them up? It’s almost guaranteed to be an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Ideas for Kids Birthday Party

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on ideas for kids birthday party.  Not everyone celebrates birthdays.  But, there are plenty of us who do.  So, each household will have its own traditions, practices and other things to arrange around the occasion. However, there are a few birthday practices that have become increasingly commonplace and popular.  As a result, you may find that you end up engaging with them too. While there’s no right or wrong way to arrange a birthday for your little one, the following steps will help to make sure that the day goes well all around!

Ideas for Kids Birthday Party

Set a Budget

First, you need to set a budget for the occasion. Too many people end up underestimating the cost of a kids birthday party.  The best way to avoid overspending is to set your budget and stick to it, period. Determine how much money you will have after essentials costs (such as rent or mortgage payments, electricity, water, food etc. ).

You will be left with a sum that represents your disposable income. Set aside an amount that you can afford to spend for the party and do not exceed it.  Repeat, do not exceed it.

Plan in Advance

Most importantly, start planning your kid’s birthday well in advance. Planning will allow you to  start saving for any expensive purchases that you might want to make.  Planning in advance can also allow you to purchase or book items that may be in high demand or set aside money for items that will take up a large portion of your budget.

Consider Gifts

Gifts tend to be a big part of birthdays for many kids. Sure, they’re not the be all and end all of the occasion, but if you do want to buy gifts for your little one start planning as soon as possible.  Sometimes, it can be difficult to gauge exactly what your child wants. This is where a wish list can come in handy. Get them to write down anything they’ve seen that they’d particularly like. This could be anything from a Super Wings Donnie to a specific book or video game they would like to play.

Ideas for Kids Birthday Parties and Themes

Many kids like to have a particular type of birthday party.  There are countless types of party you can hold.  However, consider your little one’s interests, the number of invitees, your budget, your location and more.

  • Backyard PartiesThese tend to be relatively low cost because it is hosted at your home.  As a result,  you don’t have to fork out for a venue. A good addition to this sort of party is a bouncy castle. You can prepare food yourself at a low cost too!  These are perfect for themes like Disney Princess, Minnie Mouse, Cars, Spider Man, Peppa Pig to name a few.

  • Pool PartiesMany local pools will rent their facilities out for parties. This allows your kids to swim with their friends while being supervised by life guards who will be on duty for their safety.

Furthermore, if you have a pool that’s even better for older children.  Have a few parents or family and friends volunteer to be life guards.  Put a few hot dogs and burgers on the grill and add in a few sides. It’s the perfect pool party food for hungry kids and adults who will be on hand.

  • Arcade PartiesNext, many arcades have a party room and will provide a pizza and drinks for your child and guests.  They also offer a discount on tokens for each of your guests so they can play games, miniature golf or rock climb etc.

  • Trampoline PartiesSo, more and more trampoline centers are popping up. They have safe trampolines and foam pits for your kid and their friends to play around in for an hour or two.

Last, whatever kind of party your child would like to have, be sure to involve them on the guest list.  Give them the number of guests they will be allowed to invite, and than help them decide who they want to invite.  Unfortunately, most budgets won’t allow them to invite an entire class of kids.  So, make sure they invite their closest friends and classmates.  Also, backyard parties allow more children to be invited because of the lack of money being spent on the venue.

Finally, there can be different elements to your little one’s party depending on what they enjoy and what you are able to arrange yourself. Hopefully, some of my ideas for kids birthday party will help you in your planning.

Creating Child Friendly Backyards

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on creating child friendly backyards.  With many venues closed because of Covid-19, there are going to be very few outdoor activities for children this summer. Your yard can be the perfect place for them to stay safe and have fun. But, you’re going to need some tools and some creativity to help create a child friendly backyard.

creating kid friendly backyards

Tips for Creating Child Friendly Backyards:

Installing a Pool

In the past, most people wouldn’t entertain the idea of having a pool in their yard.  Pools can be costly to install, with tiles, pumps, and required accessories to build a permanent pool.  However, above ground pools are available now, which can make a backyard pool  cheaper. You will still need a hose to fill up the pool.  But, you can easily assemble and disassemble an above ground pool without much help from others.

Swing  Sets

Swing sets are almost like theme park rides to a child. They love the motion of going up and down and back and forth.  It makes them feel they’re having the time of their lives. Swing sets can be found cheaply online or in big box stores.  However, make sure that you have the tools to anchor the new swing set safely into the ground.  Ensuring the swing set is anchored properly will avoid accidents.  There are loads of guides around the web that can help you to achieve this goal.

Cornhole Games

Cornhole games are a traditional outdoor pastime that many people haven’t played before or haven’t played in a long time.  A small beanbag is thrown at a ramp that has a hole in it.  The objective is to get the bag into the hole.  Cornholeworldwide.com is one of the leading companies offering this game.  Furthermore, it has a large range of options that will make your yard look great.  Get your children involved on which game to buy for the family.  They will love being involved, and will be more open to playing games they choose.

Tetherball

Tetherball has been around for a very long time.  It has been providing tennis players with the means to practice their skills when they are on their own.  For those who are not familiar with tetherball, it’s a ball  attached to a pole by a rope.  And, players can bat it between each other.  The goal is to wrap the rope around the pole in a set direction. You can get both floor mounted and freestanding options.  So, when you are looking at equipment make them perfect for a wide range of gardens.

I hope my tips have motivated you to add a few ideas to your backyard.  It can be hard to find things for the kids to do during a pandemic, but your outdoor space can be much more inviting if you put the work into it.

Teach Your Kids to Have Fun

Today, I’m parenting advice on how to teach your kids to have fun.  Lately, we’re spending a lot more time at home. Fortunately, that means we also have a lot more time to play with our kids.  It’s a joy and boon that might be tough to give up when it comes time to go back to work.

Unfortunately, you still have to do work at home and deal with other responsibilities.  So, you have to make sure the kids don’t getting bored, cranky, or disruptive. No worries, I have the solution to help you keep your household happy.

teach your kids to have fun

Here are a few ways to help your kids have fun:

Help them tap into their creativity

Now is the perfect time for your kids to find their passion.  Helping your children get creative can include crafting fun. They can make things to decorate their rooms or other areas in the home.  This can be an excellent way to spend time together too.  Also, kids can easily get lost in their own imagination for hours with the right tools. Consider ordering a child-safe art set.  And, add in things like coloring books that encourage them to tap into that playful side.  Be sure to color a few pages with them.

Turn the garden into a playground

Do your children love trips to the local park? Do they miss the swings, slides, and other attractions? If you have the space for it, there’s nothing to stop you from bringing part of the playground to your yard. Seek help from the team at Component Playgrounds. It might be a little more costly than the average toy, but it will bring hours of fun.  Most importantly, with the right care and maintenance, they’ll love playing with their new swing set for years to come.  It’s a great way to teach your kids to have fun.

Engage Your Children

Kids can and will rise to a challenge when you put it in front of them. There are plenty of toys that will inspire them to play independently. For instance, a train set, playset, or dollhouse as shown at Very Well Family will help to engage them. These items are great way to teach your kids to have fun.

Show Your Kids How to Entertain Themselves

Some might think that you’re being a little neglectful, but playing alone is an important skill for kids to learn. Getting comfortable on their own will be helpful throughout life. So, it’s important that they understand that spending time playing alone is okay. Make sure they understand they are big enough to take care of some of their needs without you.  Just as importantly, make sure they understand not to disturb you as well. And, don’t you disturb them when they’re clearly engaged in their own play, too.

teaching your kids to have fun

It’s important to spend time playing with your kids, and to teach your kids to have fun.  Especially, when their opportunities to play are limited to the home. However, you can make sure that the time they spend alone or with each other is still fun and safe with the tips above. So, don’t feel guilty about encouraging independent play.  Remember, you still need to keep an eye on them.

Reading is a great habit to get into.  And, your kids will benefit from reading.  So, start a family book club.   You could all read different books as you relax together, or take it in turns to read passages from the same book. Tips on Finding Your Child’s Passion

Today, I’m sharing parenting advice on finding your child’s passionAll children are creative in their own way. They play and invent, they come up with worlds that you couldn’t dream of yourself.  But, while creativity is a natural thing for kids some are more creative than others. To help foster this creativity, there are plenty of things that you can do as a parent.

creative children

Here a few tips on finding your child’s passion:

Let Them Play

Every child loves to play.  To them, it’s more than idly messing around with their Legos or dolls. When playing, kids  are creating. Whether they are inventing absurd family drama with Melody Jane Dolls Houses or reenacting the best action scenes they’ve seen on TV.  Either way, they are indulging in their creativity and developing tools needed for story-telling and more.

While it’s essential for kids to learn, it’s just as essential to allow them to play. Furthermore, when playing with friends, they learn to be creative collaboratively.  And, this is something that will benefit them later in life. Rather than push them towards education every free moment, allow them to play and create, also.

creative children

Make a Creative Space in the Home

While most kids will be happy to play and create in their bedroom or the living room, it’s not always ideal. Especially, when you’re struggling to keep the house tidy.  So, try putting together a creative space for them to indulge and discover that creative spark.

Not only will this space keep the rest of the house tidy, but it will also encourage their brains to associate such an area with being creative. Inside, you can fill it with toys, musical instruments, and blank sheets of paper where they can draw and paint. They’ll discover what they love, and pursue it further.

Introduce Them to Books, Songs and More

There’s a lot to be said about letting the TV be the parent for your kids.  But, exposing them to appropriate media can help give them inspiration for their creative ideas.  They will borrow from other media to create stories, and it will help them invent their own characters and scenarios.

Expose them to music, especially if they’re not proficient at an instrument yet. Rather than invent their own melodies, they can copy existing songs, which gets them used to using an instrument and improve their skills.

The Creative Spark

Every child has a spark of creativity nestling within them. Rather than suppress it, you can encourage the creativity spark to ignite and flame into something beautiful.  Regardless of which creative activity they end up pursuing, it will help them to grow, change, and learn.  And, this is something that every parent should encourage in their children.

3 Obstacles to Your Kids Hobbies

Hobbies are fantastic for kids.  Today, I’m sharing parenting advice on obstacles to your kids hobbies. Hobbies can help shape their lives, passions, and even careers.  At the very least, hobbies can encourage youngsters to step outside their comfort zones.  It helps them to think creatively, and test the waters of what they exactly enjoy.

But, let’s be honest, it’s easy to push our hopes and dreams onto our kids.  In fact, few parents ask their kids what they want to do. Instead, they push them towards karate when all the kid wants to do is take piano lessons at First Choice Music Studio. This can lead children to see the activity as more of a hurdle than something they enjoy.  It may also interfere in their true calling.  Projecting your desires onto your kids can be harmful.  Worse, you may not even realize you’re a part of the problem.

Here’s a few obstacles to your kids hobbies:

Trying to Mirror Your Childhood

If you loved a hobby or club when you were younger, it’s natural you would want your kids to get that same enjoyment. They may even go along with such a plan because of stories you’ve told them. Still, this is no way to a hobby that suits their tastes. There are, of course, exceptions to this but, if you’re in any doubt about whether you’re letting your past enjoyment sway their sign ups right now, then you might just be letting your desires get in the way

kids hobbies

Forcing Your Children to Participate

Preparing your kids for school can be challenging, but hobbies should be the opposite. If that isn’t the case, you may want to rethink the situation.  You shouldn’t have to force them to wear their Scout uniform.  If you do, it’s a sign this hobby is more for you than it is for them. Hobbies should be fun. If they never look forward to it, then who’s really benefiting?

Hobby Failure

When kids are passionate, they usually progress fast. A child who wants to get their progress report for their piano lessons is passion about their hobby.  If they’re not doing well during their lessons, it could be a telling sign that they are not interested.  It’s your job as a parent to find out what’s happening, and if your child is really interested.  This particular activity may not be for your child.

Admittedly, hobby failure doesn’t always land on your shoulders. It’s certainly not unusual for kids to try out a few things before they find a hobby they love.  But, if you’re noticing the above warning signs, take a step back and be honest.  Ask yourself if you are an obstacle to your kids hobbies.

What Mom Needs – Give each guest a note pad and pencil.  Have each guest write down  a list of baby items Mom and Dad will need.  Give guests 5 minutes to complete.  The guest with the most items listed wins a door prize.
