Would You Purchase This Kitchen Set For Your Son?

Would you purchase a kitchen set for your son?  My now 4 year old grandson has been asking for a kitchen set for months.  We just celebrated his birthday and purchased this adorable kitchen set for him.  He loves it, but his other set of grandparents believe kitchen sets are for girls.  The picture clearly shows a little boy on the box playing with the set, so it obviously isn’t just for little girls.

Please tell me why people still think this way.  Some of the best chefs in the world are men.  My grandson loves to cook.  As you can see, he’s been at it since he was 2 years old.  He’s making a spinach dip for his mommy in the picture below, who loved his creation.

This is Xavier whipping up brownies with grandma several months ago.  He had a great time making them and a better time eating them.  My father was a better cook than my mother when I was growing up.  Have you heard of Bobby Flay and Emeril?  Do you watch the food channel?  Ninety percent of the challengers on Iron Chef are men.  The Cake Boss is a man.  I’m just saying, lol.

It’s so sad that we have people in the world who still think this way.  What frightens me is what they’re teaching him when he spends time with them.  My daughter spoke up, and make it clear that she will not have her son taught 50’s views and values.  Whether he wants to be a chef or fly jets will be up to him.  If he turns out to be gay, so be it.  He will be loved just the sameI was so proud of her.   It’s this kind of narrow minded thinking that generates prejudice in the world.

We purchased this set at Toy R Us and it is the bomb.  It is made by Lifestyle Legacy.  A little pricey, but well worth the price.  The colors are fun and features a sink, swivel faucet, 2 burners with clicking knobs and a cutting board.  It even has a cell phone for take out orders or chatting with grandma while fixing dinner, lol.  It also includes an oven, microwave, refrigerator with water dispenser, coffee pot, storage bins, dishes, shakers, pots and pan and the list goes on.  It has everything a little chef needs to cook a great meal including a pot holder, and it will provide opportunity for him to use his imagination.  Isn’t that an important part of development for a child regardless of whether they are boy or girl?  We even received a free 85-piece food set with the purchase.  It was the perfect gift for him.

We see this set providing hours of entertainment for his little friends who are visiting with mommy and daddy, and we’re sure Zarriah will love using it when she gets older too.  It’s a breeze to clean, and assembled quickly.  Don’t forget the batteries.  The clicking of the burners is a big part of the cooking process.   If you’re in the market, you should add this kitchen set to your list of toys to check out.  You little one would be thrilled if Santa puts one of these babies on his sled.  I highly recommend it.

Would You Wear A Lettuce Dress?

Yep, it’s made from lettuce!  I had to do a double take when I saw this advertisement for PETA.  Quite creative.  First Lady Gaga and her dress made from raw meat and now a lettuce dress from PETA.  What’s next bread, lol?   This advertisement is for PETA’s vegetarian and vegan starter kits.  PETA is encouraging people to go vegan.  Whoever created the dress should head over to Project Runway and sign up for the next season.  It’s adorable

Tom Hanks Take on Toddlers and Tiaras

As my readers know, I’m not a fan of children being in beauty pageants. I’ve watched several episodes of Toddlers and Tiaras and quite frankly found it appalling.  I have a problem with parents spray painting tans on children,  making them up to look like painted dolls, and than claiming they’re doing it all for the child..  Do I have stupid tattooed on my forehead?  If you can find the tattoo, I’ll accept that it’s all being done for their daughter.

Anyway, I came across this video with Tom Hanks and his take on parents and the Toddlers and Tiaras show while watching Jimmy Kimmel.  Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, so watching his take on pageants just made my day.  He is brilliant in the video.  Also, the little girl shown in the video is an actress, she is not Tom Hank’s daughter.  Hope you enjoy the video.

Is 4 Too Old For A Pacifier?

Is 4 too old for a toddler to suck on a pacifier?  Check out little Suri Cruise.  She goes from Little Diva with high heel shoes and a Starbuck drink one day to a toddler needing to suckle the next.  I struggled with my grandson and whether he was too old to continue with his Nip Nip at age 2.  I can’t imagine him walking around at age 5 with a pacifier in his mouth.  Anyway, we decided that we should wean him from the Nip Nip at 2.5 years.  I’m happy that we did.  Most doctors recommend that parents wean their children from the pacifier before they turn 1.  Miss Suri will be turning 5 next month.

My grandson lived his Nip Nip.  He used it to sooth himself often.  We gradually switched to giving it to him at nap and bedtime only.  We weaned him altogether when we moved him into his big boy bed.  When I see children Suri’s age breastfeeding and still using a pacifier, I wonder what’s up with the parents.  Is it laziness or just not wanting to hear their child cry if they wean them?  Could it be that they can’t tell their children no?  Reminds me of the parents who are suing McDonalds because their children want a Happy Meal and they have to tell them no, lol Not being able to say no to your child is a problem in itself, and the problem is with the adult.

If Suri was attending public school, she would have to leave her pacifier home.  If not, she would be a target for bullies or the butt of jokes by her schoolmates.  Yes there are 5 year old bullies,  but that’s a conversation for another time.  It’s doubtful that school adminstrators would allow a 5 year old to bring a pacifier to school either.  The fact that she will be privately tutored may be a reason why Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise don’t see a need to wean her at this time.

Regardless of whether you’re a star or not, some parenting skills are universal.   When we lack the ability to tell our children no we aren’t doing them any favors.  Take a look at Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie before she matured and became a mother. Drew Berrymore was another troubled teen and I could go on, but I’m sure you understand where I’m coming from.  Children need limits and guidance.   I wonder what Katie Holmes’ explanation would be if asked why she’s allowing Suri to use a pacifier at age 5.

Would her explanation be acceptable to me.  No.  Would it be acceptable to you?  Do you believe age 5 is appropriate for a child to still be using a pacifier?  Please leave us a comment.  We would love to know your opinion.

Who Ate My Thin Mints?

It’s that time of year!  Yep, girl scout cookies are on sale.  As you know I’m a lover of the Peanut Butter and Thin Mint Patties.  I purchase at least 10 – 15 boxes of cookies each year.  I love to freeze them and pull them out on a hot summer day while I’m curled up reading a good book or watching a good movie.

My sister knows that I’m a lover of girl scout cookies.  She sent me a link to a newspaper article this evening that had me in stitches.  The article was about two roommates fighting over Thin Mint girl scout cookies.  Apparently one roommate woke the other up early Sunday morning accusing her of eating her cookies.  An argument ensured, and the roommate whose cookies were missing assaulted the other with a pair of scissors, a board and then a sign.  I wonder if the sign read, “Who Ate My Thin Mints?”

As much as I love my girl scout cookies, I don’t think that I will go to jail on an assault charge for them.

Mother Mails Puppy

A Minneapolis mother tried to mail a 4 month old puppy via Priority Mail to Georgia for her son’s 11th birthday.  Yep, you heard me right.  She tried to mail a puppy through the mail in a cardboard box with no food, water or air holes.  When I saw the story, I couldn’t believe my eyes or earsThe puppy moved inside the box, which caused the box to fall.  The worker picked up the box and heard panting.  She called her manager who instructed her to open the box, and there was this adorable puppy named Guess.

How in the hell did she think this puppy would survive?  The trip from Minneapolis to Georgia is 2 days.  When I see or read stories such as this, I ask if people are really that stupid.  Well, I saw her with my own eyes and yes there are really people this stupid.  She was smacking gum and walking out of an animal cruelty hearing as if she didn’t have a care in the world.  She even tried to blame her stupidity on UPS.  She told the officer that UPS didn’t have a list of what could be mailed or what couldn’t.  Bitch, would you mail a human being in the mail?  I mean really.  The worker asked her if there was anything perishables, liquid, hazardous, etc., you know the standard questionsand her response was no.  She told the worker the box contained a toy robot.

Once her plan fell apart, she demanded a refund and she even tried to get the puppy back.  Oh yes she did!   Thank goodness, her request was denied.  She is now facing animal cruelty charges and must pay $15.00 per day for boarding fees for the dog.  If she is unable to pay, the dog will be put up for adoption.  I wonder why she doesn’t have custody of her son!  I think her son and her puppy are better off without her in their life.

I’m so glad the story had a happy ending.  It could have ended up being a tragedy on the evening news.

Kim Kardashian is Smoking Hot

The Kardashians looked great at the People’s Choice Awards.  Kim Kardashian’s make-up caught my eye.  I think it’s absolutely beautiful.  She stepped out in corn rows last week, and this week she stepped out with a flawless face.  I’m planning to do a make-over this year, which includes loosing weight, a new hair do and a make-up change.  No, I’m not trying to look like Kim, I don’t have that much booty or beauty, but I did wonder what make-up she preferred.  The answer is MAC.  Lucky for me, MAC is sold at our local Macy’s.  I’m a Lancome girl, but I think I’ll head over to Macy’s for a MAC make-over.  Stay tuned, lol.

If you would like to see a how Kim applies her foundation and achieves her smokey eye look, check out this video with Kim and her make-up artist.

I love this picture of Kim with the braids too.  It’s not a look that I’m striving for, but my girl is rocking the braids in this picture.  I do have to say that braids are great on vacation when you’re really not interested in worrying about your hair.  You can add a scarve for a great bohemian look or leave them as they are with shorts, a maxi or mini dress or jeans.

Do you plan to do a make-over in 2011?  Leave us a comment and let us know what changes you plan to make.

HTC Android Desire – I Love You

I took the plunge this year and upgraded my cell phone to the Android Desire.  This phone is getting great reviews and I understand why.  It has GPS, touch screen, and email capabilities. This phone packs a full 3.7 inch matrix OLED screen, a 5 mega pixel camera and a 1 GHZ Snapdragon processor, sweet.  The touchscreen took some getting used to, but once mastered it’s easy to dial, text or surf the web.  Another great feature is you can lock the phone when you place it in your purse.  Great feature to keep you from inadvertently dialing someone.

The internet connection is incredible.  I also love the fact that you can turn the phone on it’s side and the screen turns for easier texting or dialing.  How cool is that?  The Desire also has Google navigation, FM Radio, Facebook and Twitter icons.  I just downloaded the applications for eBay, my favorite news sites, Photobucket, the Weather Channel TV.com and a host of others.  Free ring tones and ring backs are in abundance too.

I’m still the learning the camera features as well as some others, but all in all I’m having a hard time finding anything negative about this phone.  If you need support, you can contact the manufacturer, HTC, for service rather than your provider for assistance.  There are great on-line forums where you can find assistance as well.  Another plus is that you’re not connected at the hip to one particular carrier like the iPhone and AT & T.

I’m glad I took the plunge with this phone.  If you’re in the market for a new one, the Android line is worth checking out.

Meet The Oldest Facebook Granny

Meet Lillian Lowe.  She’s 103 years young, and the oldest Facebook Granny.  Give Super Granny her props, she looks pretty good  for 103.  Longevity runs in Ms. Lillian’s family, she has sister who’s 100.  Ms. Lillian updates her Facebook status from her grandson’s iPad.  She’s hopeful she will be getting her own.  She’s been dropping hints, I hope Santa places an iPad under the tree for her.  What an awesome gift that would be.
Ms. Lillian joined Facebook to keep up with her 13 great-grandchildren. She recommends the social network to other grandparents as well.  She currently has 34 friends, and is on twice a week.  Ms. Ivy Bean, 104, was the previous oldest Twitter and Facebook user. Ms. Bean passed away in July.  She had 56,000 followers.  Is that incredible or what!
Ms. Lillian is a walking history book.  She was born in 1907, and remembers the Titanic sinking.  I admire Ms. Lillian, and I hope I’m as with it and alert as she is next year, lol.  Mother 2 Mother wishes Ms. Lillian a very Merry Christmas and A Blessed New Year.
