Ideas for Kids Birthday Party

Set a Budget

First, you need to set a budget for the occasion. Too many people end up underestimating the cost of a kids birthday party.  The best way to avoid overspending is to set your budget and stick to it, period. Determine how much money you will have after essentials costs (such as rent or mortgage payments, electricity, water, food etc. ).

You will be left with a sum that represents your disposable income. Set aside an amount that you can afford to spend for the party and do not exceed it.  Repeat, do not exceed it.

Plan in Advance

Most importantly, start planning your kid’s birthday well in advance. Planning will allow you to  start saving for any expensive purchases that you might want to make.  Planning in advance can also allow you to purchase or book items that may be in high demand or set aside money for items that will take up a large portion of your budget.

Consider Gifts

Gifts tend to be a big part of birthdays for many kids. Sure, they’re not the be all and end all of the occasion, but if you do want to buy gifts for your little one start planning as soon as possible.  Sometimes, it can be difficult to gauge exactly what your child wants. This is where a wish list can come in handy. Get them to write down anything they’ve seen that they’d particularly like. This could be anything from a Super Wings Donnie to a specific book or video game they would like to play.

Ideas for Kids Birthday Parties and Themes

Many kids like to have a particular type of birthday party.  There are countless types of party you can hold.  However, consider your little one’s interests, the number of invitees, your budget, your location and more.

  • Backyard PartiesThese tend to be relatively low cost because it is hosted at your home.  As a result,  you don’t have to fork out for a venue. A good addition to this sort of party is a bouncy castle. You can prepare food yourself at a low cost too!  These are perfect for themes like Disney Princess, Minnie Mouse, Cars, Spider Man, Peppa Pig to name a few.

  • Pool PartiesMany local pools will rent their facilities out for parties. This allows your kids to swim with their friends while being supervised by life guards who will be on duty for their safety.

Furthermore, if you have a pool that’s even better for older children.  Have a few parents or family and friends volunteer to be life guards.  Put a few hot dogs and burgers on the grill and add in a few sides. It’s the perfect pool party food for hungry kids and adults who will be on hand.

  • Arcade PartiesNext, many arcades have a party room and will provide a pizza and drinks for your child and guests.  They also offer a discount on tokens for each of your guests so they can play games, miniature golf or rock climb etc.

  • Trampoline PartiesSo, more and more trampoline centers are popping up. They have safe trampolines and foam pits for your kid and their friends to play around in for an hour or two.

Last, whatever kind of party your child would like to have, be sure to involve them on the guest list.  Give them the number of guests they will be allowed to invite, and than help them decide who they want to invite.  Unfortunately, most budgets won’t allow them to invite an entire class of kids.  So, make sure they invite their closest friends and classmates.  Also, backyard parties allow more children to be invited because of the lack of money being spent on the venue.

Finally, there can be different elements to your little one’s party depending on what they enjoy and what you are able to arrange yourself. Hopefully, some of my ideas for kids birthday party will help you in your planning.

Kids Party Ideas: Chuck E Cheese Party

Looking for kids party ideas?  Today, we’re sharing parenting tips on kids party ideas.  Look no further, call your local Chuck E Cheese?  First, Look at this face.  I was sorting through pictures for my scrapbooks and I came across these pictures from one of Xavier’s parties.  I thought I would share a few memories from our Chuck E Cheese party.  The kids had a great time and so did the parents.

Most importantly, I love parties where the work for the parents is minimal.  Luckily, it was just that at Chuck E Cheese.  There were lots of activities, pizza, a dance with the Big Cheese, and no clean up.  It doesn’t get any better than that.  There was a snack bar for parents to purchase other food if they didn’t have an appetite for pizza.  I must recommend their salads, they are wonderful.  We had the Superman Cake made and we purchased the Superman Tablecloth at Party City.

We had a hostess assigned to our tables who take care of serving the food, coordinating the dance with the Big Cheese, lighting the cake and all the other activities around the Rock Star’s table.  It was nice to be able to take pictures and just relax.

Because Xavier loves Spider-Man so much, it was the theme for the birthday cake.  We had this cake made at Farm Fresh.  They did an excellent job decorating it, and it was delicious.  I love that store for other reasons too.  For example, their deli is wonderful when you need a quick meal.  The kids love their chicken, and so do I.  Lets not leave out their fresh produce.  I digressed didn’t I.

So, if you’re unsure of how many guests you will have or you have a set budget, I suggest that you check out the packages available.  You can plan the party around the package.  Actually, Chuck E Cheese offers 4 packages:  Star, Super Star, Mega Super Star and Play More, Eat More .  We choose the Mega Super Star package, which included pizza, ice cream cups, tokens, a goody bag and a Rock Star cup for the party guests.   Additionally, the tables were reserved for two hours, which was sufficient time for everyone to enjoy the activities, eat and go back to the activities.

We had a great photo opportunity here, Xavier is dancing with Chuck E Cheese.  The look on his face was worth a million bucks.

Next, he had so much fun blowing out the candles on his cake.  However, we did have a mishap.  The hostess set her hair on fire lighting the cake.  Thank goodness it was quickly extinguished and she wasn’t hurt. She didn’t miss a beat, she served the cake and ice cream as if nothing happened.  We gave her a hand for handling it like a pro.  Most people at the tables didn’t even realize that her hair was on fire.  Imagine that!

Additionally, they have the Ticket Blaster.  It gives the Rock Star an opportunity to catch tickets, which can be redeemed for games.  I wasn’t sure how he would feel about being enclosed in a booth, but he did well.  He’s such a brave little guy.

Finally, we ended the party with the kids using the remaining tokens and tickets in the games area.  Somehow, Xavier lost his shoes.  But he didn’t think twice about finding them.  Thankfully, we were able to locate them before dragging him out and heading home.  Best part of the day, he totally enjoyed his birthday party and his friends.  Did I mention, he still takes his shoes off at every opportunity.

In conclusion, I hope you like our kids party ideas.  I would highly recommend having a birthday party for your child at Chuck E. Cheese.  Just as importantly, the service was excellent and all of the children left happily exhausted.  For parents, you can sit back and relax.  Because there’s no cleanup!  It doesn’t get better than that.

The Right Presents

It is important to teach your children while young that receiving presents is not the most important thing. Still, on their birthday you do want to treat them to something special.  So, it is worth putting some effort into getting there gift right.  If you are lucky, you will know exactly what they want.  If that’s the case, you can be sure there will be laughter and joy rather than tears.  It helps to shop around early, and perhaps ask for some help from a family member or one of their friends. You should also think about the card.  Getting the right birthday card is surprisingly important as well. You could even use an online card maker to create one yourself.  This will have the positive bonus of being personal and genuine compared to a normal card.

The Perfect Party

If you are throwing a party for your child, early planning is probably a good idea. The earlier you get started, the more likely it is that you will throw the ideal bash.  There is plenty to bear in mind when you are throwing a birthday party for a child. First, you will need to prepare plenty of food.  Keep in mind that you will be feeding both children and adults.  Therefore that is important to remember if you want to keep everyone happy.  You also need to make sure that the decorations are appropriate and that you have enough.  Free enough time for other concerns as the party date approaches.  Throwing the right party will ensure that your children will really enjoy their day.

Whether or not you throw a party, it is a good idea to have some kind of interesting activity.  You might even decide to take your child somewhere special.  Or the whole family can take a weekend holiday away somewhere. If you fill the time with interesting and fun activities, you make the whole experience a lot more fun.  As a result, much more memorable for the birthday boy or girl.

We hope you find our kid’s birthday ideas helpful, and will implement a few to help make you child’s birthday special.

Children’s Birthday Party Food Ideas

I found these adorable fruit ideas and just had to share them with my readers.  I actually made the butterfly slices shown in the last picture for my grandchildren’s birthday party, and the children devoured them.  They’re easy to make and make a statement on the food table.

Children’s Carnival Birthday Party Ideas

kids carnival birthday party tips

We celebrated Xavier and Zarriah’s birthdays a few weeks ago.  We decided to combine their parties this year since we were having guests from out of town.  Zarriah’s Christening was the following day, so we decided to have a week-end of festivities.  I had a blast planning it, and it was the party of the year.  At least for a kid’s birthday party.

We decided to go with a carnival theme party.  So, if you’re looking for carnival birthday party ideas you’ve come to the right place.  Before we decided to combine the parties, we had planned a Ladybug party for Zarriah.  My daughter wanted me to incorporate the ladybugs into the carnival theme, which presented a challenge.  If you know me, you know that I’m always up for a challenge.  We decided to include a ladybug cake in addition to the bright colored cupcakes.  We decided to use carnival themed toppers on the cupcakes.  Didn’t both turn out adorable.

Next, we rented a huge tent from a catering company.  We used bright and bold colored tablecloths on the tables.  The lot included red, blue, yellow, green and pink.  In addition, we used 3 banquet tables to feature the cakes and finger foods.  Our menu included chicken salad sandwiches, wings, ladybug crackers, butterflies orange slices, which I forgot to get a picture of, and the kids loved them.  The butterflies were orange slices cut in half, turned in the opposite direction and a slice of strawberry set in the center.  Additionally, we served potato salad, veggies and dip, chips and hot dogs.

Here’s a picture, although not very good,  of the ladybug crackers we served.  The base is a Ritz cracker topped with chicken salad, a cherry tomato sliced for the wings, and a black olive held on with a plain toothpick.  Both the adults and kids loved them.  Click here for the creamy chicken salad recipe.  We

You can’t have a carnival without a clown.  So, we hired two clown to entertain the kids for an hour.  They were great.  This is Bubbles B, she made a balloon hat for granddaddy and his birthday girl.  In the picture above that, Zarriah is studying Bubbles B.  This was her first experience around a clown.  We were wondering if she was going to cry in the picture above, but after studying her for a few minutes they became good friends.

We set up a balloon dart board, and secured it to one of the storage building.  It was the perfect height for all the kids to participate.  That’s my niece, she was the dart board champion.

The kids couldn’t leave the carnival with out a bag of popcorn or a sno-cone.  As a result, we rented a popcorn machine and a sno-cone machine.  They were both hits as you can see.  We were able to get a good deal along with the bounce house.  We gave tickets to all of the kids when they arrived, and we had an adult stationed at each event.  Each event or item required 3 tickets.

The kids participated in a sack race.  Needless to say, they had a ball.  We purchased the sacks from Party City.  I use them for my July 4th cookouts too.

Somehow, we had to include a ladybug activity into the festivities.  This is the buggy bus.  We taped ladybug wings to the back of the bus.  And we placed eyelashes over the lights to get our ladybug some character.  The kids loved it.  I had to station an adult at the buggy bus, because the kids were fighting over her.  I was so happy to incorporate the ladybug into the carnival theme.

Get creative, and you will come up with plenty of carnival birthday party ideas too.  We had a Duck Pond game as well, however, the kids had other plans for it.  They decided to stand in it and cool off.  FIY – if you are planning to use this game at a party, make sure you use weighted ducks so they can float.  Additionally, we also had a Veggie Can Toss.  Unfortunately, it rained and we were unable to play that game.  The kids headed to the Bounce House and we were unable to retrieve them after that.  We had to literally start deflating the tent before we could get them out.

My grandson showing off his balloon hat.  Balloon hats and animals are great carnival birthday party ideas too.  The kids enjoyed watching the clowns make them.  We gave each kid one as they were leaving as a part of their goodie bag.

I’m glad birthdays only come once a year, but the memories of my grandson and granddaughter will be forever.  I plan to do a scrapbook, my other passion, so they can look back on this great child’s carnival birthday party.  I hope you found my carnival birthday party ideas helpful.  Implement a few, and you will be able to throw the birthday party of the year too.  You may also like Chuck E Cheese party ideas or Kid’s Birthday Party Ideas.
