Baby Loves Disco

It’s hip, it’s hot! Babies are rocking to beat of the 70’s and 80’s in the trendiest night clubs across the country. Baby Loves Disco is a dance party featuring real music played by real DJs. Night clubs are opening their doors for this afternoon disco party. In addition to the 70s and 80s music, there are activities like bubble machines, egg-shakers, a chill-out room (with tents, books and puzzles), and diaper changing stations. Healthy snacks are offered for those who have shaked their Huggies, Pampers and Luvs covered booty, and for those who have worked up an appeitite watching the booty shakers. It’s a great social activitity for baby and parents.

This disco craze was started by Heather Murphy, a professional dancer who was looking for something different to do with her toddler. The concept was an immediate success. It gave the parents an opportunity to mingle, dance, and have fun with their toddlers.

Baby Loves Disco is taking place coast to coast. Check out the 2007 Baby Loves Disco calendar for the next hot spot.

Mother Removed From Plane for Breastfeeding

A mother, her husband, and baby were removed from a Delta airlines flight because a flight attendant believed she wasn’t covered enough while breast-feeding. The mother states she was seated by the window in the next-to-last row, her husband was seated between her and the aisle and no part of her breast was showing. The flight attendant offered her a blanket; however, she declined and told the flight attendant that she had a legal right to breast-feed her baby. The flight attendant wanted the head of her 23-month old covered.

Let the sega begin! The flight attendant requested that the family be removed from the plane. Rather than cause a scene, the family obliged. They’ve decided to fight back. They filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission in Vermont against Delta Air Lines and Freedom Airlines.

With all the controversy over breast-feeding in public should the mother have taken the blanket as the flight attendant requested? Did she irritate the flight attendant with her “I have a legal right to breast-feed my baby” comment? Should we educate flight attendants on that fact that some mothers choose to breast-feed, and it’s not a crime? Did the flight attendant go too far by having the family removed from the flight? If the flight attendant discovered the mother was breast-feeding other passengers would have done the same. With this in mind, did the flight attendant have a right to ask the mother to cover herself and her baby with the blanket? Let us know your thoughts!

Black Friday Shopping Tips

Black Friday shopping tips

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year. Also, it’s one of the best days to grab steals and deals.  However, your planning must start before you hit the stores.   Check out the ads days before and especially around Thanksgiving Day.  I suggest that you make a list of the items that you are seeking and the store that has those items.  If you get a chance, check ads for the more expensive items prior to heading out on Black Friday.  I would shop for those items first.

Additionally, many stores start Black Friday around 8:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day.  To help make your experience easier, here are a few Black Friday shopping tips:

  • Be patient and wear comfortable shoes.
  • Carry a list of the items that you’re shopping for.
  • Set a budget, and don’t exceed it.
  • Map out a route so you don’t have to back track to stores.
  • Carry the ads with you, you may encounter a discrepancy with the sales clerk.
  • Be an Early Bird shopper, between 5:00 am and 11:00 am, for the best deals.
  • If possible, leave the children at home. You can accomplish more if you don’t have to stop to feed the little ones or leave because they’ve had a major meltdown.
  • Shop on-line in the comfort of your home. On-line retailers offer Black Friday deals too.
  • Get a gift receipt for any holiday purchases for exchanges or refunds.

Most importantly, remember the true meaning of the holidays.  As a result, don’t overextend your purchasing power. Just because an item is on sale doesn’t mean that it’s a bargain.  Set a budget and stick to it.  You may be able to find the item at another store or for a lower price at a later time.  Be sure to take your patience and manners with you.  There will be hundreds of shoppers looking for a deal just like you.  You may also like: How to Become a Flea Market Shopping Pro.

Captain Underpants Banned

Captain Underpants is banned from Long Beach High School in Long Beach, NY . For those of you who are unfamiliar with Captain Underpants, he is a superhero invented by a young man named Dav Pilkey in 1973. Captain Underpants has done battle with talking toilets and the infamous Professor Poopypants. It is recommended reading for ages 7 – 10 and published by Scholastic, Inc. The superhero has created controversy over the years. The comic book series has been banned from schools and libraries throughout the country. Some parents have found the content somewhat offensive. The series of books include story lines on bathroom humor, hypnotizing a mean principal etc.

The author Dav Pilkey had a reading disability when he was a child, so his comic books are filled with more pictures than words. As you can see, Captain Underpants wears briefs and a red cape. Three 17 year old teenagers decided to dress up as Captain Underpants for their Superhero Day, but the school’s principle would have no part of it. The teens wore beige leotards and nude stockings under white briefs and red capes. The principle took offense to the girls showing the briefs. Visible underpants in the school’s hallways is not permitted. The students were dismissed so they could go home and return in proper attire.

I wonder what the parents were thinking when their daughters left for school dressed in briefs and a cape. Did the teens know that Captain Underpants was banned from schools and libraries across the country? Did the teens know that underpants were not allowed to be shown? The teens felt that the costumes was appropriate, they weren’t actually naked, it just appeared that they were. Would you allow your 17 year old daughter to leave for school dressed as Captain Underpants?

Lets Shoot The Kitties

Here’s one for the books, Principal Shoots Kittens on school grounds. His reasoning, to keep them from starving. Apparently the mother of the kittens was killed, and the principal decided to shoot the kittens rather than see them starve. Students who were on the school property heard the shots. The principal stated that no students were in danger. I guess taking the kittens to the Humane Society or seeking a home for them never crossed his mind. He could have also called animal control. Most importantly, why is a school principal carrying a gun on school grounds? Besides shooting the defenseless kittens, carrying a gun on school property is a felony.

What’s happening in our school systems? Why has the world become so violent? This is an educated man who was selected to lead a particular student body and its teachers. If this is the type of decision that he made regarding kittens, I sure wouldn’t want him making decisions regarding my child’s education. Fortunately, this principal accepted a settlement and resigned. Frankly, I would have fired him without paying him a dime, but I guess the goal was to rid the school of him and his poor decision making skills as quickly as possible.

I’m Unadopting You

Should parents who adopt a child be allowed to unadopt them if they discover mental disabilities later? A Virginia couple has done just that. In 2003, the 12 year old boy they adopted sexually molested a 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl still in diapers. At that time, case workers revealed the medical records of the 12 year old boy. The records were shocking. They revealed that the boy’s biological parents were drug addicted alcoholics who abused him. The records also indicated that the boy had been hospitalized seven times in psychiatric institutions and diagnosed as possibly psychotically bipolar. The couple claims that the social worker did not reveal this information, and if they had known they would have never adopted the young man. The deciding factor to unadopt was when psychologists informed them that he was a “sexual predator.” This meant that the couple could not have their three grandchildren in their home nor could they continue to be foster parents. They were forced to choose between their grandchildren and foster children or their adopted son.

In the state of Virginia, if the child is older than 14 the child must give consent for a parent to terminate their parental rights. The young man won’t consent, he wants this couple to be his parents forever. Can you feel my heart breaking? I have mixed emotions about this situation. First, I believe that the couple should have been told about the boy’s mental state. Second, I believe that you are a mother and father for life. You take the good and the bad with your child, right? I’m not judging this couple none of us know what’s in store for us when we commit to parenthood, but how do you tell your child that you no longer want them. This had to be a difficult decision for any mother. If my son was seen as a sexual predator, and I had grandchildren and other children in the home would I have made the same decision? Yes, I believe I would have chosen to unadopt him as well.

This is not the first court case to unadopt a child. The first was in 1986. An Ohio couple was told the 16-month-old they adopted was a healthy infant born to a teenage mother. When it was determined later the child had a fatal disease and displayed mental disorders, the parents discovered he was born to two middle-age mental patients. I’m sure this happens often there are so many children waiting to be adopted. Is this deception? In my opinion yes. This is information that would influence a couple’s decision to adopt. It certainly would be a major factor in my decision to adopt.

The state of Virginia has relieved the couple of their custodial rights only, they must pay $427.00 per month in child support and cover any court costs that may be incurred by the boy in the future. The state has placed the boy in foster care. The couple don’t believe they should have to pay child support, and they are looking to politicians to help them out. They believe they were deceived. What’s the chances of this young man growing up to be a productive human being? How many children will he harm when he’s on his own? What will be his attitude toward women in the future? What does the future hold for the two children that he’s already molested? What a heartbreaking story.
