I was born in 1970 and I just looked up to see what occurred the year I was born. Gas was 36 cents a gallon and Paul McCartney announced that the Beatles were disbanding.Ofcourse as a new born I don't recall this.

  5. A few years ago for my birthday a friend gave me the "What Happened the Year You Were Born" book. He claimed I am one of those hard to buy for people. Cheezs. Anyway the one that stuck out is the Vietnam War officially ended. Year 1975.

  6. What happened in 1965? lol

    * July 25 – Bob Dylan elicits controversy among folk purists by "going electric" at the Newport Folk Festival.

    * August 1 – Cigarette advertising is banned on British television.

I could go on and on but, …

    Thanks,

  7. Elvis returned from Germany! What a year!

  8. I was born in 1974. That year Nixon resigned, and one of the top songs was "The Joker" by the Steve Miller Band. Oh yah!

  9. I'm 1968! The only thing I know for sure is the assassination of MLK Jr.

I'll have to do some research to see what else was going on.

  10. FUN!!  1969- The first manned landing on the moon.
    Apollo 11
    What a great idea!!!

  11. Gosh, it was all bad things the year I was born!
    1979:
A major accident occurs at a nuclear reactor on Three Mile Island near Middletown, PA

An American Airlines DC-10 loses its engine and crashes seconds after takeoff, killing 275 people

Hurricane David kills over 1200 in the US and the Dominican Republic

Some 90 people, including 63 Americans, are taken hostage at the American Embassy in Tehran, Iran

Although, if you're a sports fan – ESPN started broadcasting in 1979

  12. Sadly, Robert F. Kennedy died on June 6, 1968… the day after I was born.

On a more positive note (if you like The Beatles) The White Album was released later that same year.

  13. Hi Cat,

Thanks for stopping by.  It's hard to believe that the general public has only had access to cell phones for 20+ years.  Most people can't live their lifes without them now.

  14. That's such a cool idea, I don't really know much about my birth year but did some digging and found…

    1983
    – The first mobile phones, are introduced to the public by the Motorola Company
