Outdoor Activities for Adults

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on outdoor activities for adults.  It’s always nice to spend time outdoors. Not only is it nice, but it’s also incredibly important. Studies have shown time and time again that spending time outdoors can have a significant impact on our overall mental wellbeing, not to mention our physical well being. And it’s becoming increasingly important, especially since we’ve had such a long period spent indoors thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, spending more time outdoors is one of those things that’s easy to do.

Check out the Local Scenery

You might have ambitions to visit the most beautiful national parks, but realistically, you’ll only have one chance each year to make that happen. But, you need more nature in your life than that!  So, see what’s located near you. You might have a stunning state park within an hour’s drive from your front door. That’ll make it easy to spend a sunny Saturday walking through nature with your family. There’ll probably be plenty of places within your local area if you just take a look online or ask your friends for recommendations.

Work Outdoors

One of the reasons why many of us don’t spend as much time outdoors as we’d like is because we have to work. So, wouldn’t it be handy if you could do a job where you were outside? Those jobs exist! If you’re pretty handy at gardening, start a flower or vegetable garden.  If you enjoy design then you could take a look at landscaping jobs, for instance.

Another option is to get a job at a state park or as an outdoors tour guide. These jobs always score highly on job satisfaction levels, too.

Get a Hobby

Sometimes, heading outside for nature’s sake isn’t enough to motivate anyway to get outside.  But,  you may have the motivation to head into nature for a passion.  If you have an outdoor hobby or have always dreamed of doing one, get started.  There’s mountain biking, cycling, white water rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, roller skating and many more.

Go Camping

If you love to camp, gather your camping supplies and pick a spot. Head out for a week-end or a week or two.  Better yet, set up camp in your backyard.

It can take some getting used to camping, but once you’ve been bitten by the camping bug, it’ll be something that you do again and again. Another way to get your fill of starlight is to work on your ability to enjoy your yard all year.  For example, add a fire pit so you can stay outside even when the temperatures begin to dip.

I hope that you will pick one or two activities from my list and get moving.  I love to garden, walk and just enjoy nature.  Try it, and you will fall in love with it too.

Hosting a Winter BBQ Successfully

Today, I’m sharing outdoor living tips on hosting a winter BBQ.   Entertaining isn’t a summertime pursuit. If you’re a fair-weather gardener, you need to recognize the importance of using your space all-year-around. The main benefit of having a backyard is that you can structure it to enjoy winter too.  Once you do that, a BBQ is a piece of cake!

Of course, the trick is to choose the right set up so that you don’t have to move indoors when the weather turns and the mercury drops. If you don’t know where to begin, the following tips are excellent starting points. Continue reading to learn more.

Hosting a Winter BBQ:

Landscaping

A green lawn and colorful flowers might look pretty, but they’re not great when it comes to soaking up water. If anything, they absorb too much, making the ground squelchy and muddy, two features that are bad for winter barbecues. The right landscaping design can ensure the base for your barbie and eating and seating arrangements are solid and secure. After all, a bit of rain won’t affect stone flagging too much, as long as the material is high-quality. There’s no reason to swap all the soft elements for harder materials; just the places where you plan to grill and socialize.

An Outdoor Heater

Wrapping up only helps so much. When you reach the point where the cold is in your bones, you must either find a way to heat up or go inside. Who wants to go inside!  As a result, an outdoor heat is ideal for winter BBQs. Not only are they powerful, giving off a ton of warmth, but they’re designed with gardens in mind. As a result, you can pick a heater fixture that complements the style of your property’s exterior.

Use Sturdy Dishes and Containers

Unfortunately, an outdoor area isn’t going to stop the wind from blowing, even if the setup is sheltered.  Don’t let Mother Nature ruin your BBQ by not protecting your food and drinks from the wind.  Thankfully, plastic storage containers and ceramic dishes are study enough to withstand the elements without taking away from the social element.  Additionally, plastic containers are easy to pass around. Plus, they are cheap and reusable.

Create a Simple Menu

Although grilling is the ideal avenue to show off your skills, it’s also challenging in the wrong conditions. However, it’s not impossible if you stick to the basics and do them well.  For example, burgers, sausages, and kebabs on a stick are tasty and will go please most guests.  Furthermore, they cook cook quickly. Therefore, if the wind is too strong or the rain too heavy, you should still be able to provide these delicious food. Attempting to pull off a complicated menu in winter only increases the number of obstacles, which means the odds of failing are higher!

So hosting a winter BBQ is the perfect way to add excitement to those long, cold nights.  So, why not mix-up your routine and get rid of those winter blues!

Outdoor living is quickly becoming a trend.  More people are taking pride in their yard and patio areas.  As a result, they spend more time outside.  What was once considered a normal part of the home has become an extension of your home.  So, a great garden and outdoor living space can even be a selling point for your home.

Having the space and making it neat and tidy are great, but how do you make it a more useable area?  How do you encourage yourself and your family to spend more time outside?  I wanted to share a few ways that you can invest in  luxurious items, accessories and other things to create an a great outdoor space. We encourage you to invest your time and your money in your garden.  You won’t be disappointed, it will pay off in resale value.

Make an outdoor dining area

The one thing that enjoyed most is dining outside.  So, if you find yourself stuck with what to do with your garden or patio area consider a dining area.  Keep things simple, but invest in a new dining table and chairs.  Also, add an umbrella to shade you from direct sunlight.  Furthermore, invest in a cover to keep the furniture in good condition too.  Especially, during the winter.  If you don’t feel like you have a large enough space for a table and chairs, consider extending your patio area.  A decked level would also work.  You can add details like wooden shades and planters to make an impact.

Take the cooking outside

Dining outside is great, but why not think about doing the cooking outside as well.  Again, you can keep things really simple and invest in a BBQ.  Some BBQs are full on outdoor stoves where you can cook a full meal or grill.  If you’re brave enough when the weather becomes chili, you can still enjoy your outdoor stove.

However, a BBQ can just be the start of your outdoor kitchen.  Home owners love the idea of creating an outdoor cooking area.  Some have included a pizza oven, a fire pit to keep warm and even an outdoor sink.  These are some amazing examples of outdoor kitchens that could tempt you into investing in one so that you can create a great outdoor living space too.

Add a fun element to your outdoor living

Who says that a yard is just for sitting, reading or sipping on a beverage.  Although there is clearly nothing wrong with this, adding fun elements to your outside space could really bring it to life.  A portable hot tub can make a big difference. You may be thinking that a hot tub is a little extravagant, but there are some health benefits to having one.  For example, hot tubs help relieve anxiety and stress as well as improve your sleep.  Another idea is to create a children’s play area.  You can separate parts of your yard to ensure that you have adult space as well as a great place for your children to enjoy.  You could add a treehouse, a slide or swings.  While you’re relaxing on your deck, the children can enjoy their space.

Socialize more in your garden

Socializing can often be seen as something you do inside your home.  After all, that’s why a majority of people invest in an open kitchen and dining areas.  Or, they invest in a plush kitchen. However, socializing can now be extended to your outside area.  Consider having additional seating and LED lighting installed.  Adding the seating and lighting around a fire pit makes the area inviting.  Additionally, when the temperature drops a fire pit could help you extend the use of the seating area too.

While it can be quite tempting to dismiss your garden during the winter months, keeping it tidy is recommended.  Stay on top of the flower beds and your lawn.  Having a tidy space is also inviting, so invest in outdoor storage to keep lawn care items out of sight.

I hope that some of these suggestions have offered you some inspiration on how to create a great outdoor living space.

Winis Multifunctional Outdoor Poncho Review

outdoor poncho review

I was offered a discount on the Winis Multifunctional Outdoor Rain Poncho.  I’ve been looking for one to wear to my grandson’s football games, so I purchased the product at a discount in exchange for a review.  This post contains an affiliate link.  If you click on the and decide to purchase an item, I may receive a small commission.  The commission helps maintain Mother 2 Mother, and does not affect your cost for the item.

The poncho is available in two colors, orange and blue.  I love bold colors, so I choose the orange.  The poncho arrived quickly, and neatly packaged in a mini bag with a drawstring.  I loved the packaging concept.  It’s the perfect size for carrying in your purse or bag on those days that it’s calling for rain.   In my opinion, there’s nothing worst than being at an outdoor event and it starts pouring.  I hate using an umbrella at football games or other outdoor events.  My hands always manage to get wet and cold.

outdoor ponchosAlso, the poncho is perfect for wearing over a jacket or sweater.  However, I do recommend wearing a hat under the hood.  The hood has a drawstring on it, so you can adjust it easily.  Another feature that I like is that the poncho is tear resistant.  I was actually concerned, because the poncho is light.  But, it appears to be durable.  Cleaning is easy, you can just wipe it off with a damp cloth.

You can also use the poncho as a blanket. This is perfect for me, especially on warm days.  My granddaughter takes her dolls so she can play with her friends t her brother’s football games.  I can spread out the poncho and she has a play area. How cool is that.

In addition to wearing the poncho, it will make a great gift.  If you know someone who loves to fish, camp, or hike consider purchasing this multifunctional outdoor poncho.  In a downpour, you can cover items that you don’t want to get wet.  Stash one or two in your car for these occasions.  Although I didn’t get to wear the outdoor poncho during football season this year, I highly recommend purchasing one here.  I’m happy to have mine on hand when needed.

First, let me say that I love, love, love this Bright Outdoors Picnic Set.  Two side zippers enclose the canvass case. It’s a nice olive green color. When I opened the case, I was quite impressed.  I immediately thought, picnic at one of my favorite out of the way spots.  I’ve been wanting to put together a picnic basket, grab a good book, a bottle of wine and just have an old fashioned picnic.

Bright Outdoor Picnic Set Review

This picnic set includes two plates, which are sturdy.  I wouldn’t be afraid of them breaking if I had a full plate.  Additionally, there’s a nice cheese board.  So, pick up some brie or another favorite cheese and you can slice it right on the board.  Utensils are included in the set.  So there’s no need to search for a knife.

Next, the napkins. They are included too.  They are simple and made of a plaid material.  Perfect for wiping the mouth or hands.  The cheese board is noteworthy.  Did I mention, that the board could be used to cut French Bread or veggies too.

Picnic set review

Next, the set includes 2 knives, spoons, forks and a knife that is perfect for slicing cheese, meats or veggies. The utensil handles are made of a nice wood.  Moreover, if you clean the plates and utensils and place them back into the case, they should last for quite some time. Did I mention that the case will fit perfectly into a picnic basket or bag.

In addition to being used on a picnic, the set can be used for road trips.  The plates are perfect for holding the kid’s snacks.  Furthermore, mom or dad can use them for a quick bite between afterschool drop offs at the kids activities.  There’s a wine bottle opener, which also serves as a bottle opener.

I recommend this Bright Outdoors Picnic Set .  I actually couldn’t find any cons to write about.  Check it out for yourself.  Most importantly, it would make a great gift for you or a family member or friend.  Last, you may also like the Ultimate Kitchens Water Infuser.
