Pregnant Mother Arrested For Unpaid Chicken Salad Sandwiches

Shop at Safeway?  Be sure to pay for any items that you or your children have eaten while shopping.  If not, you’ll probably be sent to the slammer and your children turned over to Children Protective Services.  That’s what happened to a famished pregnant mother and her husband at a Safeway in Hawaii.
Yep, they slapped the cuffs on her and hubby and hauled them off to the slammer like common criminals.  Here’s the story.  The  30 week pregnant couple had recently moved to Honolulu from California.  They needed groceries and ventured off to Safeway.  While there she started to feel hungry and picked up two chicken salad sandwiches saving the wrappers so she could pay for them when she headed to the register.
After walking around the store and finally heading to the register, she paid for the groceries.  However, she forgot to pay for the two sandwiches.  Now any mother who has a 2 year old knows that by the time you get to the register you’re frazzled.  Forgetting to pay for the sandwiches is understandable.  You’re lucky if you can remember how to find your way back to your car in this case the bus stop.  The former Air Force Staff Sergeant paid for the groceries and headed out the store.  They were stopped and questioned about the sandwiches by security.  They were returned to the store and lead to an office.  Rather than allow the couple to pay for the sandwiches, they called the cops stating that store policy did not allow shoplifters to buy for purchases once it left the store.
Once the cops arrived, 4 hours later, they were read their rights.  A lady from Child Welfare took their daughter and the rest is history.  They spent the night in jail and away from their 2 year old daughter.  The baby was returned after 18 hours away from mom and dad.  Needless to say, moms across America are livid.  I mean really.  The couple paid for their groceries, so they obviously had money and didn’t need to steal.  The woman was 30 weeks pregnant, hell we’re always hungry when we’re expecting.
Safeway has apologized for the way the situation was handled and has promised to review their policy.   They have stated that they understand our rage.  I don’t shop at Safeway, but if I did I would be giving them a piece of my mind.
My advice for moms out there is to stick something that you can munch on in your purse for you and the children.  Be sure that it’s in a baggie or container.  I’ve watched moms in grocery stores open chips etc. and allow their children to eat while they’re shopping.  I’ve also watched managers walk up to them, and state that they can’t  open food while in the store.  The policy is they must pay before consuming it.  I think the situation was handled poorly, and she honestly forgot to pay when she went through the check out.  What’s most upsetting is that they hauled that poor little girl off while sending her parents to jail for $5.00 worth of sandwiches.  Do you think the situation was handled poorly?  What advice do you have for pregnant women or moms of tots who may get famished while out shopping?  Leave us a comment, we can’t wait to hear from you.

Nadia Suleman’s Christmas Card

How do you get 10 children to sit still long enough to take a portrait?  This is Nadia Suleman’s, aka Octomom, Christmas card.  Yep, she’s back in the news.  She’s in need of money, who wouldn’t be with fourteen children.  Apparently, the mother of fourteen has been ordered to pay a $450,000 balloon payment on her home by December 31 or be homeless.  Apparently her father worked out a deal for Nadia to live in the home although it is owned by someone else.  Nadia would be responsible for making the payments.  If the home owner falls behind on the payments, a balloon payment becomes due.  According to the home owner, Nadia should be evicted from the home and he’s prepared to take legal action.

It appears that people have lost interest in her, and offers for books, movies and reality TV shows aren’t coming in as she had hoped.  The financial well has run dry.  She decided to have a yard sale to try to raise funds.  People take desperate measures in desperate times.  Hell, I’ve never been able to raise more than a few hundred dollars when I’ve had a yard sale, how does one raise $10,000.  Unfortunately, Nadia was only able to raise $2,600.  She should have called Niecy Nash on Clean House.  She knows how to get it done.  The $2,600 was not enough, but not bad for a bikini that she wore on the cover of a magazine, her nursing bra, sofa, and a photo opportunity with her children.

PETA made Nadia an offer to assist with the balloon payment.  They wanted to place a sign in her yard that read,   “Don’t let your dog or cat become an ‘Octomom:’ Always spay or neuter,”  How humiliating is that?  She accepted the $5,000 offer so she could keep a roof over her children’s head.

I wonder what kind of life these poor children will have.  It’s impossible for her to give these children the attention they need and deserve.  Unless you’re filthy rich, it’s also impossible to feed, cloth, pay medical expense, save for college or everything else with fourteen children.  They are so adorable, and they deserve much better.  Without public assistance, what do these children have to look forward to?

The state will end up taking care of these children eventually.  She was receiving food stamps and disability payments before you had the last 8.  As a single parent, I usually rally behind another single mother, but I find it difficult to have any compassion for someone who had 6 children that she couldn’t take care of and she selfishly brings 8 more into the world.  Can you imagine the chaos in that house with fourteen children running, screaming, crying, fighting and who knows what else.  I pray that there is no tragedy within the walls of that home.

Rather than place this burden on the state, I think her fertility doctor should be made to take some responsibility.  We know that won’t happen, the best we can hope for is that he will loose his license.

I wish the best for the children, and no ill-will toward their mother.  Since the children have a baby’s daddy, she’s all the support they have.  Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts on Nadia Suleman and her fourteen children.

I Won’t Leave My Child To Fight In A War

Meet Army Spc. Alexis Hutchinson, 21. Spc. Hutchinson refused deployment to Afghanistan because she didn’t have anyone to care for her child. Here’s her story, she initially thought her mother would be able to care for her 10 month old son during her year deployment; however, her mother changed her mind at the last minute. You see her mother is currently caring for her elderly mother, her sister and a special needs daughter. In addition to caring for 3 family members, she runs a daycare with 14 children during the day. Her mother stated that the baby would need more care than she would be able to provide with her current responsibilities, so she reneged.

Spc. Hutchinson requested additional time to make arrangements for the baby, but instead of receiving additional time she was ordered to place her child in foster care and deploy as scheduled. She was unable to make other arrangements and refused to place her baby in foster care. She was arrested for not deploying as ordered. Although no criminal charges have been filed against her, she has been confined to her base in Savannah, GA. This soldier is a single mom who is no longer connected to her baby’s daddy. She had no where to turn, and she made the choice that any true mother would make. She refused to leave her 10-month old baby in the care of a stranger while she entered a combat zone. I say you go momma.
Now according to an Army spokesman, the Army would not deploy a soldier who had no one to care for their child. According to Spc. Hutchinson, she was denied additional time to find someone to care for her baby. The Army has vowed to get to the bottom of it what exactly took place with this mother and her superiors. In the meantime, her mother has retrieved the infant since her daughter’s arrest and is caring for him in spite of the burden that it has placed on her.
I will leave my personal views on the wars that we are currently engaged in out of this post, but I applaud this young mother for refusing to leave her child to go to war. I hope that serious actions are taken against the superior who ordered this young lady into a combat zone at the expense of her child. You have to be a pretty heartless person to give that command.

Would you have deployed or placed out your hands for the bracelet? I would have been arrested, there’s no way I would have placed my child in foster care especially if I was placing my life on the line. This young mother would have had no peace of mind while she was there. How could she, she would have no idea where her child was or who was caring for him. How could she focus in a war zone not knowing? I would love to hear your opinion on this young mother and what you would have done had you been in her shoes. Please leave us a comment.
