How to Attract Catbirds to Your Backyard

Spring is around the corner!  Catbirds are at the top of the backyard birds that birdwatchers want to attract to their backyard.  I have been successful bringing them to my backyard.  As  a matter of fact, they build a nest in my backyard Bradford Pear tree each year or in this huge tree close to my picnic table.  However, in the winter they roost in lower shrubs at the edge of my property.

Backyard Catbirds

Gray Catbirds mimic several other birds and even other animals.  I remember noticing the catbird years ago.  It was meowing like a cat.  I looked around my property, but there was no cat in sight.  My neighbors have cats; however, they are inside cats.  I do have feral cats pass through the property, but they were nowhere in sight either.  So, I went inside to grab my binoculars and pointed them in the direction of the sound.  There it was, a Gray Catbird.  Oh my they are a beauty.  The pictures don’t do it justice.

Catbirds

I have learned to keep my camera nearby when I’m outside.  You never know when a photo opportunity will present itself.  I decided to keep these beauties around as long as I could.  I learned that Gray Catbirds love the Dogwood Tree.  So, I was able to capture this photo in the spring when my pink Dogwood was flowering.  What an amazing backdrop it presents to any bird that visits when it is blooming.  Other birds that love the Dogwood are Eastern Bluebirds, Robins, Purple Finches and the Northern Flicker.  I have spotted Robins in the same tree.

The male and female Gray Catbirds look identical, so it is difficult to tell them apart.  Both male and female give the “meow” sound.  They love thick, dense, tangled and low shrubbery bushes.   If you’re out birding, look in that direction.   Notice how they perch on the branch, their tail is always downward.  It is long and makes as statement among the pink or white Dogwood blossoms.

Gray Catbirds

You can also lure them with grape jelly and raisins.   Baltimore Orioles love grape jelly too.  So, a dish that will hold the grape jelly is recommended.  Start setting the dish out in April or May. In the fall the leaves on the Dogwood turn a beautiful burgundy with red berries that ripen into fall. They are loved by migrating songbirds in the fall, and songbirds that plan to hang around throughout the winter.

Try enticing them with berries too.  Blackberries, blueberries, oranges and raisins are favorites.  The majority of their diet is insects, so what you offer will be a supplement.  Most Catbirds migrant to warmer climates in the winter.  However, if you see one or two that have remained during the winter, offer raisins and berry flavored suet.

Staying True To Youself When You Become A Mother

Today, I’m sharing tips on how to stay true yourself.  One of the biggest challenges for new and experienced mothers is the struggle to retain a sense of self.  In fact, it can seem incredibly difficult staying true to yourself when you become a mother.  But, empowering yourself if you have a family to take care of is a must.  Fortunately, there are some strategies you can use to help with this.  Yes, you are mom, but you are so much more as well.

Building Confidence

Staying true to yourself:

Outside Interests and Hobbies

One thing that can help in staying true to yourself when you become a mother is to set aside some time for regular hobbies and interests.  Furthermore, look for hobbies that take you outside of the home. In fact, this is important for moms that choose to stay home full-time to look after their kids.   Without additional interest, their lives can quickly be over with housekeeping and childcare tasks.

Furthermore, don’t see attending a book club, an art class, or the movies once a week as a luxury.  Instead, see it as a vital way to balance your responsibilities and life.  Always remain true to your own personal identity and needs.

Challenge Your Brain

While taking care of your kids can be incredibility fun and rewarding, many women that are used to having high powered career miss the challenge and mental stimulation that work provides.

In fact, there are activities that you can get involved in that can counteract this mental boredom. One is to work part-time.   Something that allows you to strike a balance between taking care of the kids and having adult conversations and interactions.  Of course, working part-time is also a good way to bring extra income into your household.  And, it ensures your career stays on track too.

Another idea is studying for nursing degrees online.  Not only is it high level, the reward are great.  It will provide the mental stimulation you crave, and you can fit your studies around your family responsibilities.  Online courses allow you to have the best of both worlds, and stay true to yourself.

Being a good mother

Image

Non-Mommy Friends

It’s a fact, having another mom as a friend can be a real lifesaver.  After all, who understands being woken up in the middle of the night five times for a feeding or the trials and tribulations of potty training?

However, when your goal is to stay true to yourself as a mother, it can also be useful to spend some time with your non-mommy friends.  In fact, it tends to be people that you have met through school, college, work or hobbies that best remind you of pre-mommy persona. Something that can be incredibly refreshing if you feel as if your identity is being swallowed up by your role as mom.

Driving Safety Tips You May Be Overlooking

Roughly 90 people each day are the victims of fatal car accidents in the US.  Unfortunately, this is the highest rate among other comparable countries. That’s certainly a scary statistic, but you can still take your family on the road.  The good news is that nearly all traffic collisions are preventable.  Driving the speed limit, proper car safety seats, and eliminating distractions are all well-known precautions.

Driving Safety Tips:

Safety Measures Outside of the Vehicle

When shopping for a vehicle, be sure to exercise due diligence to select a vehicle that will keep your family safe.   Remember, though, that your kids don’t have to be inside of a car to be injured by one.  Nearby streets, busy or not, are a potential risk if your child isn’t consistently following safety guidelines.  Remind your child to stay out of streets and pay attention to their surroundings.  A majority of drivers speed in school zones, according to a study by Safe Kids Worldwide. This study also indicated that stop signs and other safety features put in place in neighborhoods with children are frequently ignored.  So, no matter how child-safe you think an area is, you must remain diligent with safety.

Age-Appropriate Seating

Child safety doesn’t just pertain to babies and toddlers. Children between the ages of 4 and 8 tend to be more at-risk for injury in cars.  This is due to oversight when it comes to proper child safety seats for kids in this age category.  They’ve likely grown out of their car seats at this age.  Many parents that means that they’re ready to ride with a standard seat belt.  However, most children aren’t big enough for regular seat belts until 10 years of age.  Once they’ve outgrown their car seat, they should be placed in a booster seat.

driving safety tips

Be Aware of Stationary Safety Risks

Also, you should also teach your kids about car safety when vehicles are both moving and parked.  For example, never cross the street by themselves.  They should have someone take them across or watch them as they’re crossing.  In addition, many accidents involve non traffic incidents.  Children playing inside the vehicle can get caught in a power window or trapped in the trunk.  Your children need to know that a car is n not a toy.  In addition, be sure to keep your car locked.

Remember: all precautions only part of the time are only partially effective in preventing vehicle accidents. Employ all of these techniques to increase vehicle safety.  Pass on this information to others as well; sharing is caring!

Before You Go

Before you even start driving, you should make sure that everything is as it should be. For example, some vehicles have ignition interlock devices which requires the driver to pass a breath test before the vehicle will turn on. If you experience an ignition interlock violation, the vehicle simply won’t allow you to move. Furthermore, make sure that everyone is buckled in safely before you move the car.  This will minimize the risk of an accident.  I hope you will take these driving safety tips into consideration, and make sure you and your family on safe before you hit the road and while you’re on it.

Building Your Child’s Confidence Through Family Projects

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on building your child’s confidenceSpending time with your children is something all parents want to be able to do.  However, finding time can often be difficult.  Especially, when you’re trying to juggle work schedules, meetings, school, after-school activities, and chores.  So, why not get your children involved in family projects?  Not only will you be doing projects with your children, but you will be strengthening your bond as well.

Furthermore, you can build confidence in your children with family projects. Doing projects with your children teaches them new skills, and helps build their confidence.  And, they will teach your children how to work as a team.  A skill that will help them in all aspects of their lives.

building confidence

Gardening is a good project for the entire family and combines art and science for a great learning experience.  It can be refreshing to get your children away from their electronics and outside learning about nature. Whether you want to start a vegetable or a flower garden, you must prepare the soil. Even younger children can help out because they love to play in the dirt.  Make sure they aren’t using any tools that may hurt them. By working together as a team you, your family can not only start a beautiful garden, you can also work together to maintain it. It will need to be watered if it doesn’t rain enough. When vegetables are ripe, they will need to be picked.  Your family can enjoy eating the fruits of your labor together.

Another way to building your child’s confidence is to bring out their artistic side. If you have a bland wall in your home give it some pizzazz.  For older children or teens, especially if they have an innate artistic ability, why not let them put their talents to good use? You can paint your walls, put up textured wall art, or decorate with stencils or pictures.  It will add some color and uniqueness to your home. The younger children can help by choosing the wall art, choosing the colors or handing tools to the older ones.  To further include your younger children, have them decorate the mailbox. Most children enjoy drawing, coloring and painting.  They will feel special, and have something to show off to their friends and others who visit your home.

Treehouses are very popular.  It’s a great family project, and another way to build confidence in your children.  You want to be sure you are using a sturdy tree basic woodworking skills. A treehouse can become a home where your children can spend time alone, time with their friends, or other family members. In order to make sure the treehouse is safe, it will take some time, patience, dedication, and determination. In a world where instant gratification is what most people expect, this can be a valuable lesson.  Once the treehouse is complete, you may consider starting a new tradition such as a weekly Friday night of telling stories and playing games.

Family projects can include cleaning out the garage? Although this idea of a project might not sound very appealing, the entire family will be glad they worked together to organize their garage once it is done. You never know what you might find when you clean out clutter. Your children might find something they thought they had lost forever! You can install shelves or racks that will help maximize the clutter. Think about how much easier it will be to find things in your newly organized and neat garage. Planning a family movie afterward might also be a good incentive. Your children will be given the satisfaction working together to complete a task.

Working on family projects together is a way to building your child’s confidence. It’s similar to taking family vacations. You are making memories working and playing together. You might even learn new things about your children that you didn’t know.  Their responses will give you insights into what is important to them, and their confidence will rise as you include them in important projects for your home.

Mother of the Bride Wedding Roles and Responsibilities

Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on mother of the bride roles.  There are many mother of the bride roles.  I don’t think many people think of those responsibilities and duties that mom handles for her daughter’s wedding. So, it’s a big day for a mom too.  Planning a wedding takes a lot of effort.  So remember, before calling anyone else you should call your mom.  She can help you take care of every detail during the planning phase, and will do it without hesitation.  Most importantly, don’t forget mother of the bride dresses.  Mom wants to and deserves to look as pretty at your wedding too.

Mother of the Bride

Mother of the bride roles:

1. Help with the Wedding Shopping:

Yes, your mother is the only one who can help and guide you during the shopping phase for your wedding.  Take her along and ask her opinion.  She wants the best for you, so she will never go wrong.  While shopping for your dresses, shop for mother of the bride dresses as well.

2. Helping the Bride to Get Ready:

A mother of the bride helps her daughter ready for her big day.  A mother knows what colors looks best on her daughter, what makeup looks best on her, and what type of dress can flatter her figure the most.  No one in the world can offer help like mom!

mother of the bride roles

3. Hosting the Wedding Reception:

The main responsibility of a mother of the bride is hosting her princess’ wedding reception.  She is the one who greets the guests and plans the theme for the party. She will also sit in front of  her daughter during the wedding ceremony.

Because the mother of the bride is the hostess at her child’s wedding, she has to look her best as well. She is the key person at the wedding after the bride.  Efforts should also be made towards purchasing gorgeous mother of the bride dresses.

mother of the bride roles

4. Communicating and Coordinating with the Groom’s Family:

Another responsibility of the mother of the bride is to communicate effectively with the groom’s family members. She has to ensure that everyone has a good time at the party and there are no complaints.

There are times when conflicts arise between both families, so it is the mother of the bride who ensures everything goes smoothly.

5. Looking Her Best:

The mother of the bride must look her best at the wedding too.  She should feel confident and happy from inside.  And, when a person looks good, she feels confident.  As a result, don’t diminish the mother of the bride dresses when you go shopping.

There are several options available in beautiful gold mother of the bride dresses that are trending.  Depending on her comfort and style, she can choose one. Gold mother of the bride dresses provides a classy and glamorous look at a wedding.

Conclusion:

So, these are some of the duties of the mother of the bride at her child’s wedding.  Apart from these, she has to always encourage her daughter and ensure that the vibes are position.  And, ensure the bride is happy and smiling all the time.

What happens in traffic school varies from one place to another.  Based on the violation,  the lecturer will teach you what you should have done to avoid committing that offense.

Also, you must complete a DMV-approved traffic school course so points will not to be applied against your license.  Once you complete the traffic course, the violation only appears in your private record.  However, if you are a commercial driver the violation appears in all records.

Traffic school online is sometimes cheaper than physically attending a school.  For example, when you take a defensive driving course online in Texas, you may pay $25 for each course.  In other places, it could be more or less.  However, the true value in taking a course is that you save on high insurance premiums.  Additionally, you keep your public driving record clean.

In California, you can pay anywhere from $20 or more for each defensive driving course. You will also pay a court fine/bail dependent on the judge.  Additionally, a non-refundable administrative fee of $50 or more may apply.  If you feel uncomfortable going to court alone or handling a traffic ticket in Los Angeles, California, a Los Angeles traffic attorney can help you go through the process.
