Setting Up iPhone Location Services

If you are wondering how to set up iPhone Location Services on yours or your child’s phone, you are at the right place. Location Services refer to the set of features used to determine the location of your phone, and provide information based on your location.   Apps such as Find my iPhone, Google Maps, Yelp, etc. rely on your location services to determine the direction to drive.  Furthermore, to locate a lost or stolen phone or even find the nearest Chinese restaurant.  Location Services depends on your phone’s hardware and other data from the internet as well as the Global Positioning System (GPS).   Most smartphones have a built-in GPS chip that enables them to connect to the GPS network and its location.

iphone Location Services

When traveling, your iPhone location services can play a vital role in your life.  Travelers depend so much on location services to get to destinations. It also allows parents to locate their kids if they fail to meet them at the pre-arranged spot.  While GPS is excellent, it is not always accurate.  GPS will use information collected from cellular networks, Wi-Fi networks, as well as Bluetooth devices to get precise information about your location. To find out what street you are on, you’ll need to combine GPS and cellular data with crowd-sourced data and extensive mapping technology from your iPhone and Google.

Turning the Service On or Off:

You can manage your iPhone’s location services through the phone’s Privacy menu. Below you’ll learn how to set up location services on your iPhone:

  • Click on Setting From the Home Screen
  • Scroll Down and Choose Privacy
  • Choose Location Services
  • By Toggling the Switch, Turn the Feature On. Be Sure to Check That It Is Not Restricted. You Can Check This Information By Heading to Your iPhone’s Restrictions Menu.
  • Once You Have Enabled the Restrictions Menu, Choose Which App You Want to Share Location Services For. To Find Location-Enabled Apps Head to Share My Location.
  • You Can Now Choose the Preferred Location Access.
  • Choose Your Preferred Location Services Option From the Following Options: ‘’Never’’, ‘’While Using’’ and ‘’Always’’.

iPhone Location Services

Why Use iPhone Location Services

  • With companies such as Facebook finding themselves in trouble over their continued use of GPS inside your smartphone, we’ve decided to let you know that location services is not as evil as portrayed.  iPhone Location Services protects your information and gives you the freedom to choose what you want to share.  Location Services allows Apple as well as third-party apps to gather and use data based on the current iPhone’s location.
  • But, information about your iPhones location can be used when making an emergency call even if you are yet to enable Location Services.
  • Enabling Location Services on your iPhone means that you agree to the collection, processing, transmission, maintenance and use of your location information and location search queries by Apple and its partners in providing location-based services.
  • But the crowd-sourced location information gathered by Apple does not identify you personally.
  • And yes iPhone Location Services can help you remember to buy groceries and other personal stuff. We are sure you have forgotten to buy milk or chocolate for your kid even after writing them down on the list. It happens to the best of us.
  • You can be sure that nothing will be left behind, thanks to Reminders. iPhone Location Services allows you to attach a certain location to the entries you’ve stashed on the app.

What if My iPhone’s Location Services is Turned Off?

  • You are free to disable your iPhone’s Location Services anytime by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. You can either turn off each app’s individual location switch or turn off the global Location Services switch.
  • If you want to disable all websites’ location services, set the Location Services for Safari or Chrome to “never’’.
  • Most apps depend on Location Services.  If the apps fails to give you accurate directions, this means the Location Services is turned off. You will not also be able to use “Find My iPhone’’.
  • Again, third-party apps that require your location so they can function will be worthless. But you will see a pop-up notification asking you to turn on your location when you launch an app that requires GPS.

Benefits of Lavender in Your Backyard Garden

Today, I’m sharing gardening tips on the benefits of lavender.  If you’re interested in growing lavender or making DIY medicinal or beauty products using lavender, this post is for you? Lavender is in the mint family; however, it isn’t as invasive as mint.  Furthermore, it’s native to the Middle East, India and the Mediterranean and can be traced back at least 2500 years.

Lavender was initially used as a holy herb.  It is mentioned in the Bible as Spikenard.  It was used to prepare the Holy Essence and gets its name from the Latin word ‘Lavare’ meaning ‘to wash”.  Next, the Romans used lavender to scent their baths, beds, clothes and even hair.  Many use lavender for medicinal purposes and a variety of other reasons today.

benefits of lavender

Here are a few benefits of lavender:

benefits of lavender

Infused – Infuse lavender with olive oil, sweet almond oil or liquid coconut oil.  After 6 weeks, the oil and lavender must be strained through a cheese cloth.  Store the oil in a glass bottle.  Make body butter, hand cream, lip balm, sugar scrub, lotion, and cleaner from the infused lavender oil.

Sleep Aid –  Create a sleep-aid with lavender essential oil or infused lavender oil.  Simply, dilute the essential oil with water and fill a travel size spray bottle with the solution.  Spray a handkerchief or washcloth and place it on your pillow at night.  It’s great for calming down kids too.  Use a carrier oil that will not stain your clothing or bedding.  When you infuse oil, use one that won’t stain your clothing and bedding.  Dilute the oil with water to use as a sleep-aid spray.

Kitchen and Bath Cleaner – Infuse dried lavender with white distilled and water for 2 weeks in a glass bottle.  Lavender is a great bathroom and kitchen cleaner.  (Do not use on marble).

Diffuser – Lavender calms and reduces anxiety as well as relieves stress and assist with sleep.  I use a diffuser with lights that change colors.  I love the changing lights and colors, they relax me and make me happy.

Tea – Seep lavender flowers in a tea ball, and enjoy a hot cup of tea.

Last, we hope that the list of benefits of lavender will make you grab a seed packet and start planting.  Finally, lavender is a perennial.  So, once you have established plants it will return year after year.    You can download the Lavender Infographic here.

How to Create a Scrapbook

In a world of digital memories it’s nice to create physical memories too.  Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on how to create a scrapbook. One of the most enjoyable things to create for the family is a physical scrapbook.  And what makes it extra fun – is that you get to plan your scrapbook.  It can be a family vacation, wedding, birth, birthday party, Christmas, gift for a grandparent, you name it.  Years from now, the scrapbook will be something you and your children can flip through and talk about for years to come.

scrapbook ideas

Here are some ideas to get you started on your scrapbooking journey:

Pose!

There is a lot to be said for those moments that are captured without poses. The natural moments that are quiet and gorgeous. But, posed photos are something that can be recreated year after year. You could book the same photographer with a few years between each sitting and add them into the scrapbook to see how much you have changed.  Many people get newborn photoshoots of their children.  There is something a little bit magical about them when you get a photographer like Michael Kormos to do to them. Within a few years, your once small baby will be a toddler, and you can book another shoot and compare their features as they have grown.

Vacations

The great thing about scrapbooks is that it isn’t just photos that you can put in there. Of course, you should add in as many photos as you like. But you can add in mementos like ticket stubs or postcards from the places that you have visited.    Additionally, add in what they found most enjoyable. It is also a great idea to save menus, chopsticks, peppermints, matches or napkins.   Check out vacation scrapbook printouts  for inspiration and to help you add some cool touches.

Holidays

If you are the type of family that is partial to a Christmas jumper and some elf suits or really love easter – then you can create special pages to share what you did on those days.  For Christmas, you can add wrapping paper, stamps, glitter, and even add wrapping paper tags. Capturing the spirit of your family holidays and celebration isn’t too difficult once you get into it. Buttons and bells are also a great addition to the pages.

About Page

A fun idea is when you first buy the photo album that you will be using, have each person create and decorate an about page for themselves. They can paste in their favorite poems, photos of themselves and write the date.  For these pages, give a two-page spread.  This will allow enough room for people to add photos or trinkets in later years too.  It is super important for the parents or care giver to have a page too. It will mean that the children will always have something to look back on.  Add a photo of yourself as a child and an adult, so you can see how much you’ve changed too.

Monthly

If you want to keep the tradition going each year, dividing the scrapbook up into months is going to be a great idea. Get each family member to design the month at the top or across the middle.  Get creative.  And, use the space to add in exciting things that happened over the course of that month. Some months might have more going on that other so if you have a lot of birthdays in August or you take your family vacation in June, then give some extra room for all the good stuff.

Bad Things

While it might be tempting to only include the great things, view the scrapbook a bit like a book of your lives together. There are going to be sad moments. Losing people, pets, and other things do have an impact. And you can dedicate pages to celebrating people you loved or writing about things that haven’t been great. Life has both sweet and sour moments – document them all for a true overview of life.

One of the most wonderful things about scrapbooking is that you learn more and can be more creative as you go. You will know where to get the best printables, which stores have the small touches at a great price, and how thick you really need it to be. Once your scrapbook is made, you will no longer wonder about how to create a scrapbook.  You will just move on to your next one.

Creating Family Scrapbooks and Making Memories

Today, I’m sharing parenting advice on creating family scrapbooksBesides blogging, attending yard sales, antiquing, and gardening I love to scrapbook.  I have a fortune invested in pictures, so I decided to create memories by creating family scrapbooks.  Scrapbooks capture great memories, and they’re fun to put together.
family scrapbooks

Here are a few reasons for creating family scrapbooks:

  • There will be a physical memory family can look at without the need of electronics.
  • Scrapbooks tell a story.
  • Photography will also become a passion.
  • Kids love to look at themselves.
  • It’s a great way to relax.
  • Great hobby during cold, winter months.
  • Great activity to do with family and friends.
  • Can provide companionship by joining scrapbook clubs.
  • Scrapbooking is an opportunity to be creative.
  • Reduces your stress level.

These are scrapbook pages below were created from a Thunderbirds Air Force show.   My grandson was about 3 in these pictures.  We love pulling out this scrapbook to discuss and enjoy the pictures.  The gentleman holding him is his grandfather, who was serving in the Air National Guard.  It was family day, so the based was filled with service men and woman and their families.  There were planes to explore, pilots to talk to and the air show was magnificent. Searching for the perfect paper, stickers and other embellishments for the scrapbook is a blast.  It was a great day to remember, and I’m so happy that I preserved memories of our time in this scrapbook.
halloween scrapbook ideas

Furthermore, creating family scrapbooks Disney, visits to the pumpkin patch, my grandson’s football games, my granddaughter’s ballet recitals, vacations and more.  The possibilities are endless.  Personally, I believe that we should capture as many memories as possible in pictures.  Unfortunately, one day the pictures will be all that we have left of those memories with family and friends.

Starting an Online Business from Home

If you want to start an online business from home, but you just don’t know where to start, you have come to the right place.  Today, we’re sharing empowerment tips on starting an online business from home.  We all have a craft, we just need to tap into our specialty.

starting an online business

Here’s a few tips to help you get started:

Fill a Need

The first thing that you need to do is focus on filling a need.  A lot of people focus on finding a product first and then seeking a market second.  In fact, if you want to boost your chances of success you need to start with your market. The trick is to find people who are searching for a solution to a problem.  This will give you your  target market, and you will also be able to analyze your company’s potential too.

Design and Build your Site

When you’re starting an online business, it’s important that you take the right steps.  When you have your product and target market aligned, you need to work on your selling product.  Your site is the best way for you to do this.  You can start getting sales without investing a lot of money. When creating your site keep it simple. You have less than five seconds to grab someone’s attention or you can lose a sell to your competition.

It is suggested that you have a plain font on a white background. You also need to make your navigation clear and simple. Only use graphics if they embrace or further your message.  And, make sure that you make it easy for them to buy your products.  If you’re working from home then it may be an idea for you to invest in a virtual address for office use.

starting an online business

Use Search Engines

PPC advertising is one of the best and easiest ways to get traffic to your site.  You don’t have to wait for the traffic to come to you organically, and PPC advertisements show up immediately. Another bonus is that PPC gives you the chance to test different keywords and headlines.  You can then implement these keywords across your site in order to capitalize on the biggest benefits.

Reputation

People often use their internet connection to access information. If you make your knowledge accessible to other people, then you will increase your ranking.  Furthermore, you may even find that you get more traffic as a result.  Make sure that each link on your site provides valuable information. Give away free expert advice, create articles and even post videos. It also helps to have a blog so users can share your content.

Getting Your Kids Physically Active and Healthy

If you have noticed that your children have started to become a less active and are picking up weight?  Today, I’m sharing parenting tips on getting your kids physically active.  The last thing you want is to allow them to become obese and unhealthy.  So, it is always best to bring the situation under control immediately if you notice a problem. Are you wondering how to do that?

physically active kids

Here’s a few tips on getting your kids physically active and healthy:

Encourage Them To Join A Sports Team

One of the most important things you will need to do is to make sure your children are getting physical exercise.  Exercising is one of the major ways to ensure that they do not get too overweight.  As a result, you should try to find a way to get them to be physically active.  One of the best and most effective ways is encourage them to join a sports team.  Ask your children what interests them as far as sports.  Is it futsal vs. indoor soccer, ballet, dance, tennis, basketball, or swimming.   Make sure it is something they want to do so they will stick with it.  So be sure to encourage them in a way that will boost their self-esteem and help them moving.

Take Control Of Their Diet

If your child is starting to put on weight, take control of their diet.  Make sure they are eating less unhealthy and fattening foods and more fruits and vegetables.  You may need to put your foot down while taking control of their diet, but their health is worth it.  Controlling their diet will help them to loose weight and keep it off.

Improve Their Quality Of Sleep

You might well be wondering what sleep has to do with getting into shape.  There is evidence that strongly suggests that getting enough deep sleep is vital to your health and weight.  Sleep helps your body to regulate its metabolism.  As a result, make your child’s bedroom comfortable.  Encourage them to develop a nighttime routine.  You can expect them to get quality sleep, and ultimately that will lead to some improvements in their weight too.

These are all useful ways to getting your kids physically active.  Consider them all, and implement them one step at a time.

Saving Marigold Seeds From Your Backyard Garden

Saving marigold seeds is a fun and frugal way to enrich your garden the following gardening season.  Today, I’m sharing flower garden tips on how to save marigold seeds from your backyard garden plants.  French marigolds find a place in my vegetable garden and backyard containers each year.  I companion plant marigolds with my tomato plants.  But, I also love them in containers on my deck paired with a sweet potato vine.

There are actually 50 varieties of marigolds; however, three are the most popular.  Marigolds have a daisy or carnation flower that are produced  as a single flower or in cluster.  They are natives of Mexico and prefer sunny locations.  They should receive at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day.

saving marigold seeds

Here are the three varieties of marigolds:

  • French – Plant throughout the spring and summer.  Dwarf only growing about a foot.
  • American – Plant in the spring.  Tall, usually grows to about 3 feet.
  • Signet  – Plant throughout the spring and summer.   Flat and look like daisies.

The French marigolds are more compact than the American or Signet varieties.  I love them planted among my tall tomato plants.  You can direct sow marigolds in the spring when all signs of frost has past or start them inside.  If you direct sow, preparing the soil by removing rocks and debris and adding compost to the soil will help you grow a healthy and hardy garden full of marigolds.

Here’s a few benefits on why you should plant marigolds in your garden:

  • They’re easy to grow and be can direct sowed in the garden.
  • Repel pests.
  • Companion plant with tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, snap beans, squash, onions, and garlic.
  • Marigolds can be dried for flower arrangements.
  • Comes in a variety of colors like white, yellow, orange, or bi-color.
  • Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators love to feast on the nectar in the blooms.

backyard garden marigolds

Saving marigold seeds from you backyard garden:

Pull marigold plants from your garden and containers at the end of the growing season.  I plant yellow and orange marigolds for the most part.  However, I did plant a bi-color this year too.

marigold plants

Pull the dead/dried pods from the plants.  You will harvest the seed from these pods.  If you have flowers or pods that aren’t completely dry, place the plants in a bag and allow them to dry completely.  You can remove the seeds later.

marigold seeds

Remove the top from the dried pods.  A simple twist should remove the top.  Once the top is removed, open the pod to expose the marigold seeds.

saving marigold seeds

Also, the marigold seeds are long with a black tip.  You will want to separate the seeds from the pod and tips.  Once you have the seeds separated, place them into an airtight container, plastic envelope or paper envelope.  Mark the container with 2019 and the type of seed that you saved.  For example, 2019 Yellow French or 2019 Bi-Color Signet.

saving marigold seeds

So, saving marigold seeds from year to year will save you money on flower purchases from the garden center or your local nursery.  You will find that the marigold plants will reward you with plenty of seeds.  You will have enough to share with neighbors, family or friends for years to come.  Plant them in containers, baskets and in your vegetable garden and borders.  You can never have enough marigolds in your wildlife habitat and gardens.

Finally, you may also like Why You Should Winter Sow Seeds.  If you would like a package of free marigold seeds, please contact me at rhonda@mother2motherblog.com.
