Teach Your Family the Importance of Oral Hygiene

oral hygiene

Even people who say they’re really picky about oral hygiene might be making loads of mistakes in their daily routine. Taking proper care of your teeth and gums is essential.  Make sure you’re not making mistakes! This guide will help you achieve better oral hygiene health habits.

There’s plaque on your teeth right now

Unless you literally just brushed your teeth, there’s a dangerous biofilm on them right now. It’s often very thin, translucent, and filled with bacteria. It’s at the front of your teeth, at the back, to the sides, and even under the gums. It might sound like I’m describing some monstrous goo from some straight-to-DVD horror movie. But I’m actually referring to plaque!

Plaque develops and builds up around your teeth all day.  And it’s there, even if you’re convinced it isn’t. A lot of people may skip brushing sometimes because their teeth feel clean. They might swig some mouthwash just to get a minty flavor in there, but that’ll be it. Big mistake! Plaque is on your teeth right now, and you’ll have to brush your teeth before going to bed if you don’t want damage to occur! Not doing so can cause long-term problems to your overall health.

oral hygiene

Seriously, floss

A good and thorough floss at least once a day is the only way to get rid of all that plaque. Unfortunately, not everyone who brushes their teeth thoroughly bothers to floss as well. Thankfully, things have been getting better in recent years. Perhaps a decade ago, it was estimated that less than half of Americans flossed daily. In recent years, the statistics are looking much better. But the statistics still aren’t perfect. (Seriously, less than half of men brush their teeth twice a day? Come on, guys! Not that women are much better at 56.8%…)

Trust me, dentists can tell almost immediately if you’re someone who doesn’t floss. If you’re not flossing, then you’re allowing a lot of damage to occur to your mouth. The materials that floss removes have a habit of getting really old and making their way into your bloodstream. This is basically akin to allowing out-of-date food getting into your system, bit by bit. Over the years, this can cause serious health problems. Seriously: the research out there is linking a lack of flossing to severe heart disease.

Dealing with problems when they occur

The problem that a lot of people have is that they tend to ignore problems when they occur. This, of course, is extremely foolish. The longer you allow oral problems to linger, the worse they’ll get.

And they can escalate into a pretty nasty territory quickly. One of the most ignored problems is the presence of blood when you brush your teeth. People may assume that they’re brushing their teeth too hard – and that could indeed be the case. But it could be that gum disease is present, which is causing you to bleed even when brushing gently.

Another problem that people often allow to go untreated is chronic dry mouth. They may think that they simply need to drink more water. Which, of course, is something you should probably be doing! But it could also be the result of a specific oral problem. Get it seen quickly, because bacteria grows faster in a dry mouth! Sometimes, people let issues that have already turned into a bad situation to get even worse! This is often because people don’t know how to deal with emergency matters. Let’s say you have a root canal emergency. Don’t just assume you can’t get help just because 911 doesn’t include dental services!  There are 24 hour dental services.

Getting a little too enthusiastic about cleanliness

Don’t let this article scare you into brushing and flossing too hard. This is actually a lot more common than you might think.  After all, there’s a lot of plaque on and around your teeth at any given time, right?

Seriously, don’t fall into that line of thinking. It’s completely possible to brush your teeth too hard. And the effects can be pretty devastating. It can actually lead to some of the decay issues you’re trying to prevent.

You may also cause gum erosion. I’d include pictures of that here, but… trust me, you really don’t want to see them! Your dentist may be able to tell if you’re brushing or flossing too hard. Be careful going forward, because it’s easier than you think to apply too much force.

Stress Free Tropical Family Vacations

Going on vacation when you have kids can be difficult. There’s so much to think about.  For example, what to do with your time and how to keep everybody happy and safe.  It can be done.  So, today we’re going to give you a few travel destinations and travel tips  for your tropical family vacations.

tropical family vacations

Here are a few travel destinations:

Borneo Family Tour

Borneo is one of the world’s largest islands and one of the most interesting. There’s a huge range of activities and landscapes to enjoy in this tropical paradise. Perhaps the most enchanting for both parents and kids is the island’s orangutans. The best place to find orangutans is at the Sepilok Sanctuary.  The apes are kept on display.  However, if you head out on a bush tour, there’s a small chance you’ll see these enchanting creatures in the wild.

Borneo is home to many different tribal groups too. You can visit these groups while staying in one of the island’s traditional long houses. The rainforest here hosts many interesting creatures, including pygmy elephants and wild gibbons.  Borneo is open to visitors all year, but the best time to take a visit is between March and October.

The Texas Coast

tropical family vacations

If you’re looking for something a little closer to home consider the Texas coast, around Galveston.  Every summer, thousands of families descend on the area looking for warm waters and tropical skies. The main attraction on the Texas Gulf Coast is Galveston island. As this guide to Galveston Island points out, there’s plenty for families to do here. You can take a trip on the Port Bolivar Ferry where there’s a chance of seeing dolphins and do other sightseeing. You can also see some of the island’s many tree sculptures. If you’re into your history, your can pay a visit to the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa, preserved as a monument to the region’s maritime history.

Burma

tropical vacations

Burma has been through political strife over the last few decades.  Recently they have begun to open its doors to the outside world.  As a result, you might not think that it’s an ideal location to take children.  Burma needs to attract tourists if it is to become a wealthy country.

Children will love the wealth of activities offered. How about spending some time in the Burmese jungle learning to ride an elephant?  Or sailing to Inle Lake on your very own long tail boat?

There’s plenty of opportunities for children to get involved with the local culture. There are tours, for instance, where you can learn about the lives of traditional fishermen. You can also spend a night in a local village, living as the locals do and experiencing their culture first hand.

The Burmese people are very welcoming and have a very positive attitude to Westerners. More often than not, they learn as much from you as you do from them. When it comes to children, nothing is too much trouble.

Hippie Hair and Beauty Trends Are Back

makeup trends

Trends for this winter are pretty simple and straightforward.  Yet they are rather captivating.  It seems that the hippie style is back in full force.  And there will be some new and interesting combinations for you to try out.

So, check out the newest trends for this winter that will rock your world.

  1. Bright red lips

Bright red lipstick had fallen out of favor some time ago. However, this winter it has seen a resurgence. So, if you love wearing strong, intense colors this winter will be perfect for you. Use lip pencil after applying the lipstick and don`t forget that lip stain is more popular than ever.

  1. Braids are cool again

You can either go with a simple braid, boxer braids or fishbone style. Given that the hippie look is more causal, you can relax and let your hair stick out here and there. As long as it looks casual and loose, it will be trendy.

  1. Pink shades

The big difference between a youthful appearance and a middle-aged appearance is the natural blush.  You can replicate that nice, natural color with a little bit of pink. Whether we talk about your cheeks, eyelids or lips, pink can do wonders for you.  However, make sure you don’t overdo it!  Check your appearance in front of a mirror with good lighting.  Determine if that particular nuance works for you.  Looking as natural as possible is the way to go.  Don’t do anything that will go against it.

  1. Natural hair volume

Forget about straightening your hair.  Bring in natural volume this winter.  For ladies with straight hair,  sleep with your hair wet and braided.  This will give you soft, airy waves that will look great.  Pay attention to the quality of your hair.  If you have naturally curly hair, it should be healthy and well-nurtured.

  1. Glowing skin

Bronzer can give your skin that sunny shine that is missing in cold, winter days.  Apply it mildly.

  1. Blue eye

In one way or the other, blue is the color that is for seasons persevering in every beauty bag around the world. This season, it will even get a special place in your collection. Renown make-up artists write advice on how to choose the right shade of the blue eyeshadow  It should be according to the shape of your eye.  Also, another trick is to combine it with the blue eye pencil to make the line circling your eye more precise.

  1. New nail metallic

Metallic is in again! We are back to gold, bronze and silver accents on our nails. A twist to the old saying this season is that what glitters – is gold!

  1. Hair accessories

Various hair bows, clips, flowers and flower wreaths can be super-cool, Boho, romantic, or even eccentric.  Wear them as a contrast to your wardrobe.

Now that you are flooded with beauty and hair tips, we expect that you will try them out.  Finally, sitting down at a mirror that has good lighting will help you ensure that your makeup and accessories are becoming.  You will want to make sure your hair and makeup are attractive before you show your beauty to the world.

Water Infused Drinks You and Your Kids Will Love

water infused drinks

Staying hydrated is super-important for adults and our kids.  Ensuring the family enjoys a healthy diet and exercise regularly can be a struggle.  Many drinks that are on the market are bad news for our health.   We feel guilty about giving them to our children.  However, when you’re on the move it can be easier to grab a soda or a sugary juice drink.  We think creating healthy drinks takes time and energy.

However, putting together a tasty, nutritious and water infused drink can be quick and cheap.  Furthermore, having a pitcher already made in the fridge will save time.  Most importantly, it will always be on hand in a thirst emergency.  There are so many exciting water infused drinks you can create with fruit and spices.   As a result, every recipe you create will have its own hidden benefits.  Check out the water infused drinks in the infographic.  The next time you head to the grocery store, throw one or two extra items in your shopping basket.  Planning is key.

How To Pimp Up a Glass Of Water

For example, adding a handful of fresh mint, a slice of lemon and a chamomile teabag into to a pitcher of cold water.  You will have a refreshing drink by afternoon.  By the evening it will be a calming treat to help prepare you for bed.   Next, watermelon and rosemary will help you rehydrate.  Also, this drink is great after a tough morning or afternoon workout.

Next, whatever the requirement or time of day there’s a recipe for you.  Get creative and try a few recipes.  Before you know it, you will be creating drinks that your kids will love.   Have a look at the recipes in this new infographic.  You’ll get an idea of what your family enjoys and what you enjoy., and you’ll be on your way to flavorsome rehydration today.  You may also like Water Infused Pitcher to help create healthy drinks that your kids will love.

House Cleaning Tips for Busy Moms

house cleaning tips

With kids to take care of, work at the office to do, a house to keep clean, and all of the other challenges life throws at you, you’re undoubtedly a busy mom.  Keeping up with it all the housecleaning can seem overwhelming sometimes.  However, by setting realistic expectations for yourself and utilizing these helpful tips, you can keep your home clean and organized:

Keep Everything in Its Place:

Staying organized will help keep your house from becoming cluttered. Use laundry bins or small tubs to organize your child’s toys in his room.  Baskets are also useful for your cosmetics instead of spreading them out over your bathroom counter.  Laundry hampers in every bedroom will help keep dirty clothes off the floor.   Storage bins are great for organizing crafts and other projects.  Before you go to sleep each night, spend a few minutes putting everything back into its place. It will save you time later and help keep your home from becoming messy.

Clean as You Go:

Setting aside enough time to clean your home from top to bottom isn’t always possible. One way to help keep your home clean is by putting things away and cleaning as you go.  Make your bed each day to help your bedroom look cleaner.  Put your clothes into the hamper or hang them back up when you take them off instead of tossing them onto the bed or the floor. Take a few minutes after each meal to wash the dishes instead of allowing them to pile up in the sink. This will make meal preparation and cleanup easier and faster.

 Have a Routine:

Having a regular routine will allow you to get things done more quickly.  Schedule your weekly chores for different days of the week so they don’t all pile up for you to do on the weekend.  For instance, do all of your vacuuming on Monday evening, all of your mopping on Tuesday evening, and clean your bathroom on Wednesday.  Doing one load of laundry each evening will keep your laundry from piling up as well.

 Enlist Help:

Make your children part of the team by giving them chores to do. Giving your children age-appropriate chores teaches them responsibility and helps you keep your home clean. Have young children put their toys away each night before they go to sleep. Older children can do the dishes after dinner, vacuum, or do laundry.  Remember to show your kids that you appreciate their help, and praise them for a job well done.  Chore charts are an excellent way to help keep them on track.

Multitask:

When you can, clean your house while doing other things. When you’re talking on the phone, fold the laundry, do your dishes, or dust. Do a few dishes while you’re waiting for water to boil on the stove. Vacuum a room or clean your sink on a commercial break while you watch your favorite television show.

Keep Cleaning Supplies Close:

Keeping your cleaning supplies close to you means you won’t have to spend time running to and from the cabinet underneath your kitchen sink, laundry room, or closet where you store them. You can fill small spray bottles with household cleaners, and store them in an apron you wear as you clean. Alternatively, you can put the household cleaners you need into a bucket or bin, and carry the bin with you from room to room.

Cleaning your home can be a daunting task, especially when you’re a busy mom.  Following our house cleaning tips: cleaning as you go, enlisting help, staying organized, and multitasking can help you save time while keeping your home clean.

Today, we’re sharing kids printables on Thanksgiving Activities for kids.  Adults will be spending the day watching football.  Furthermore, they will consume huge amounts of turkey, potatoes, stuffing and beverages.  But, what about the little kids?  Why not give them a few Thanksgiving activities to keep them occupied.

Start gathering Thanksgiving activities for kids early.  The Macy’s Day parade will be on starting at 9:00am EST; however, children do become restless.
