How to Save on Vacations: We Have 20 Tips

While travel is not a household’s biggest expense, family vacations are expenditures that many families care about.  So, today we’re sharing travel tips to show you how to save on family vacations.  Furthermore, getaways can be expensive.  Particularly when traveling with kids.  Even so, here are 20 ways to push through your vacation expenses and save at the same time.

money saving tips on vacatins

1. Be Flexile on Flights

Save big money on travel by flying during less popular times, such as early in the morning, late at night, or midweek. When booking online, use the flexible-travel-date feature that lets you compare fares for days on either side of your target date.

2. Book early

Book trips between 27 to 114 days in advance saves a significant amount of money. The prices of airfares, according to CheapAir.com, fluctuate until about 14 days out, when they reach their maximum.

3. Carry-ons

Avoid paying huge checked-bag charges by making sure that several of your suitcase adheres to the standard carry-on size (9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches). You can carry these bags on the plane and place them in the overhead bins.  Pack several large or a large suitcase for family clothing and toiletries.  Be sure to pack light.

4. Hotel rooms

Call potential hotel rooms in your vacation destination and ask about discounted rooms.  AAA rates and any other specials can help cut cost. Do this before booking your hotel room.  Reservations can be made on-line.  Be sure to get a confirmation number and ensure your discount has been applied.

5. Vacation homes/condo

Consider booking a vacation home or condo rather than at a hotel. It will usually cost less and is more comfortable for the kids.  They also full or partial kitchens which can be used to cook some of the meals or house snacks.

6. All-inclusive resort

When traveling outside the U.S., consider an all-inclusive resort, which includes meals, drinks, and entertainment. All-inclusive resorts offer maximum value while making budgeting for vacation easier.

vacation tips

7. Special promotions

Find online promotions related to your vacation. Attraction tickets are often less expensive when bought online, especially during certain days of the week.  If you don’t know where to start online, consider hiring a travel agent.  These agents work on commission and won’t charge you.

8. Coupons

Search the Internet for coupons you can use once you reach your destination. There are many sites that will show you how to save on vacations. Family deals are often offered when purchasing multiple tickets. Special Internet offers are also available when buying tickets online.

9. Deals

Find discounts and deals for your destination by using Groupon or Living Social. Also, check your destination’s local newspaper for specials and discount coupons. You can find special deals on How to Save on Vacations in local newspapers or the hotel you will be staying in.

10. Transportation

Check to see if your hotel or resort offers shuttle service. You can eliminate car rental fees.  Use taxis or Uber, which can take you to outlying locations at a cost lower than a rental car.

11. Car rental

If you need to rent a car, go with a local car rental company instead of renting one at an airport location. Local car rentals help you to avoid high airport rates and fees.  Check to see if  they offer service to and from the off-site location.

vacations savings ideas

12. Car seats for kids

If you are using a rental car you may need a car seat.  Renting a car seat can set you back more than $5 a day. Save on car seat fees by bringing your own car seat for your kid.

13. Supplies

If you are driving, pack plenty of drinking water, bread, cold cuts, healthy snacks and other supplies. This helps avoid stopping and buying on impulse. Once you reach your destination, shop at the local grocery store for supplies.

14. Vacation essentials

Bring basic vacation items such as sunscreen and water bottles. Bringing your own essentials is far cheaper than buying them in hotels and amusement parks.

15. Packed lunches

If possible and when you can, prepare bag lunches each day for adults and for kids,  This can help avoid spending more, particularly on fast food chains.

16. Travel needs

Buy water, snacks and everything you need for a trip at a grocery store instead of purchasing them at the hotel, which usually sell overcharged items.

17. Eating locally

Eating at local restaurants is not only less expensive but also makes the trip more of an adventure. Ask for suggestions from your hotel’s front desk or from your vacation home’s contact.

18. Rewards points

When booking your airfare, hotels, or rental car, use points you have earned from credit card purchases or loyalty programs. Also, use credit cards that offer extra bonus points when used at supermarkets.

19. Apps

Download money-saving apps that you can use for gas, sites along a route, local diners, and accommodations. Save them in your phone during the planning stages of your trip.

20. Off season

Consider traveling during off-peak times. It will be cheaper and is less crowded than traveling during popular dates. Many vacation destinations offer reduced rates during the off season.

We hope that you find our tips on How to Save on Vacations beneficial.  You may not be able to or need to implement them all, so just implement the ones that will save you the most.

A Squeaky Clean House Is Possible Even With Kids & Pets

a-squeaky-clean-house-is-possible

I know how important keeping a clean house is.  It’s not just about appearances; it’s about how it makes you feel.  Spending time in a place that’s a mess can have a big impact on your mood.  It can lead to feelings of stress and anxiety.  Furthermore, it can make you prone to feeling blue and can even lead to depression.  Your messy house can impact your mental health; however, a clean house is possible.

No home is always perfectly organized and clean.  Occasionally, the mess will take over. This is especially true when you have kids and pets sharing your home.  Kids pull toys out and don’t put them away.  They throw food and tread dirt through the house. Pets shed hair here, there and everywhere, and are also culprits of walking mud and dirt into the house.  However, just because you share your home with children and pets, doesn’t mean it’s impossible to keep it clean. You just need a good strategy.

Become a minimalist

If you want to make the process of keeping your home tidy a little easier, become a minimalist.  This means clearing out anything that you no longer want or need, and ensuring that your home is completely free from clutter.

The best way to go about doing this is to focus on one room at a time and then work through each area of the house.  Be ruthless.  Anything that hasn’t been used in over two months, you most probably don’t need. You can choose to sell your unwanted stuff, or you can donate it to charity.

Always keep your cleaning supplies stocked.  If you don’t have cleaning supplies you can’t have a clean house. It’s as simple as that. So it’s a good idea to stock up on your cleaning items so you can keep your home in shape.

Keep cleaning products that you use regularly stored.  Make sure that your cleaning products are out of reach of  little fingers or that it has a childproof lock on it.

I
nvest in the right cleaning equipment

If you want to keep on top of chores, you need the right equipment. With the right pieces of equipment, having a clean house can be much quicker and easier.

The chances are that you already have a mop, but do you have a steam mop? Steam mops make cleaning so much simpler as there’s no need for a bucket of water or chemicals to clean the floor.  All you need is a small amount of water.  Steam mops clean with steam that can kill 99 percent of bacteria.  Fill them with water, plug them in, and clean the floor using the same motion as you would when vacuuming. You can get six-in-one steam mops that have different head attachments and can be used for all sorts of cleaning. From cleaning the windows to refreshing soft furnishings, and many other areas of the home. If you’re going to invest in a steam cleaner, it’s best to opt for a multifunctional design, so that you can use it for various chores.

A good vacuum cleaner is also a must for keeping your home clean. What is important to remember is that not all vacuum cleaners are equal.  Some are better than others. For instance, pet hair vacuum cleaners tend to have better suction and be more durable than normal vacuum cleaners.  Plus, if you’ve got pets that spread hair everywhere, they’re ideal for keeping on top of the problem. To learn more about this type of vacuum cleaner, read reviews of the best pet hair vacuum cleaners of 2016 online.

It may also be worth investing in a handheld vacuum to use when you need to quickly vacuum up small messes.  The great thing about handheld vacuums is that they’re just as powerful as normal ones but are ideal for spot cleaning.

Use containers to keep your home tidy

Place containers around your home.  Store toys and other odds and ends.  This simple step will help  keep your home tidier.  To make it easier for kids to keep their toys neat, label each container with what belongs in them, such as ‘cars’ and ‘farm animals’. Use pictures if you’re children are too young to read.

Containers can also be used in the kitchen.  Containers can be kept in your cupboards as well as the in your fridge.  By having labeled containers, not only is it easier to keep things neat and tidy but it’s also easier to know where everything is.

Keep on top of the washing

Make sure you keep on top of the laundry.   If you get behind with your washing, it can be a nightmare to catch up with. Having piles of dirty laundry everywhere can make your home look a real mess. Keep all dirty clothes in a laundry bin.

It’s a good idea to have set days a week when you do the washing. This will ensure that you are able to keep on top of all the washing and don’t get behind with it.  Have a laundry basket for each family member.  Place each member’s folded clothing into their basket.  This makes putting the clean laundry away much easier.

Having a clean home when you have kids and pets can sometimes seem impossible, but the truth is it’s not. If you are smart about how you keep on top of a clean house and have a good strategy in place, it doesn’t have to be so much of a struggle.

Sonic Triple Bristle Toothbrush Review

sonic-triple-bristle-toothbrush

This post contains affiliate links.  If a purchase is made, I made be compensated.  I was offered this Sonic Triple Bristle Toothbrush at a discount in exchange for an honest review.

This is my second Sonic toothbrush.  I’ve had my first for several years, so I happy to accept the offer for the Sonic Triple Bristle Toothbrush.  This particular brush has a triple head, which I have never seen before.  Furthermore, it has a 30 day guarantee.  The manufacturer guarantees that you will see a vast improvement in your dental health.  Your teeth will be whiter and your gums healthier.  If not, you can return the product for a full refund.  This includes shipping.  Now that’s an incentive to try this toothbrush.  So, I did!

The toothbrush comes with a charger.  It take approximately 24 hours to fully charge, so be patient.  Once charged, simply keep the toothbrush in the base when not in use.

Now for the toothbrush and use.  I switched from a manual to an electric brush years ago, and I’ve never looked back.  I personally think that you get a better cleaning and healthier gums with an electric tooth brush.  My cleanings are a breeze now when I go to the dentist.  I truly believe that it is a result of using an electric toothbrush.

The Sonic Triple Bristle brush comes with 3 brushing modes:

High – Recommended after 2 weeks of use on the low setting.

Low – Recommended the first 2 weeks of use.

Massage – Recommended for those who like a pulsating massage, which is my favorite setting.

recommended toothbrushes

You may have bleeding gums if you don’t use an electric toothbrush regularly.  I would suggest calling your dentist if you are still having problems after 2 weeks for guidance.

Using this brush takes some getting use to since it has 3 heads.  You must place your toothpaste between the 3 heads. The brush is easy to move along your gums.  I recommend brushing your teeth for at least 2 minutes or more.

Furthermore, the Sonic Triple Bristle Toothbrush is perfect for those with dental implants and other dental work.  It is being promoted for its ability to remove plague and bacteria from the gum line without scratching or damaging the teeth.

The brush is easy to clean with a damp cloth.  I unplug mine before cleaning.  I love my original Sonic and I will held on to it.  However, I think my new brush will be the replacement once I use up all of my  cleaning heads for my original Sonic.

Last, I recommend the Triple Bristle Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush  for a better at home cleaning.

Recommended Children’s Books: Terry the Treetop and the Little Bear

toddler book review

This post contains affiliates links.  I may be compensated if a purchase is made.  An electronic copy of Terry Treetop and the Little Bear was downloaded in exchange for an honest review.  I am building a library for my granddaughter, so I accepted the e-book.

A little boy named Terry and his spring adventure.  He is excited about the arrival of spring.  Terry loves to climb trees.  So, he climbed the tree to his treehouse to look for signs of his favorite season.  While there he spotted Cuckoo birds on branches, and spring flowers emerging.  Most importantly, the violet crocus flowers in their garden were definitely a sign of spring.  He jumped up and down and up and down.

While he was admiring the flowers and birds, he spots a bear club.  The club was searching for food, exploring his surroundings, and learning survival skills. Terry knew that cubs were born in the winter and came out of hibernation in the spring.  He wanted to be friends and play with the new cub.

He named his new friend Barry.  The bear headed to Terry’s swing to play, but it didn’t last long.  Mother bear came looking for Barry, and grunted for him to go back into the woods. Terry was sad because he didn’t get an opportunity to play with Barry, but he knew that Barry had to listen to his mother.

Next, Terry heard a strange sound.  He thought it was the mother bear yelling for help.  However, it was Barry.  He had fallen into a big hole, and was unable to get out.  Barry tried and tried to get out, but he just couldn’t climb to the top.   Terry remember his ladder that his friends used to climb up to his treehouse.  He placed in the hole for his new friend Barry to use.  Barry climbed out and became good friends with Terry.

In conclusion, I recommend  Terry Treetop and the Little Bear. It’s fun and the illustrations are engaging.  This would be a great bedtime story or when you just want to snuggle up and spend family time.

Transitional Pieces From Summer To Fall

As you already know, the early days of autumn are pretty unpredictable when it comes to weather forecast.  It’s impossible to always know how to dress.  As a result,  you should have a collection of transitional pieces from summer to fall that you can easily layer.  If it gets too hot you can remove an item or if it gets too cold you can add an item.  Today, I’m sharing six transitional pieces from summer to fall every woman needs in her wardrobe.  When you look good, you feel good.  When you feel good, you feel empowered.

fashion tips for women

Long sleeve dress

No, you don’t have to say goodbye to your favorite summer dresses as soon as autumn arrives.  You can still wear them when the temperatures drop.  Simply add a jacket or cardigan.  Needless to say, you won’t freeze thanks to those long sleeves!  Additionally, a long sleeved dress should be a staple in your in your wardrobe for the season.  These looks are sophisticated and very trendy at the same time.

Trench coat

If you still don’t own a trench coat, it’s high time you got one! This piece is truly timeless because of its versatility in the first place. You can wear it both in casual and formal occasions.  I recommend one with a removable liner for colder days and nights.  When you remove the liner it will be lightweight, but still provide warmth and coziness.  It’s perfect for the transitional period!

Cardigan

A stylish cardigan in an autumn-friendly shade will certainly keep you warm.  It will complement your outfit and take it to a new level. Colors such as Terracotta, Marsala, Olive, and Emerald Green may be just perfect for this season.  So have them in mind while choosing a perfect cardigan. Match it with a striped shirt, add a piece of statement jewelry, and voila – your transitional outfit is all done!

Trendy sunglasses

A good pair of high-quality sunglasses are needed during the fall months too.  The sun’s rays are still strong.  Apart from protecting your eyes, sunglasses are extremely fashionable. That makes them must-haves for a transitional period. When choosing a perfect pair, make sure that it perfectly fits the shape of your face.

Numerous brands and fashion houses are coming up with different shapes and sizes.  If you’re not quite sure which ones to purchase, you can always choose classic Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses. This model looks stunning on almost every face shape, while captivating with its Italian elegance at the same time.

Silk scarf

Autumn inevitably brings lower temperatures, which is exactly why a stylish silk scarf is an absolute must when it comes to your perfect outfit. It is a perfect choice since a heavy woolen scarf would definitely be too much – it may be too warm, which can possibly cause you to sweat a lot. For this reason, a nice silk scarf will do the trick. Just choose one in your favorite autumnal shade, or with a trendy print, and you’ll be good to go!

Pointed toe flats

The flip-flop season is finally behind us.  You can finally slip into your pointed toe flats that are just perfect for this period.  They can be worn to both formal and informal occasions.  You can go for a casual drink after work or to a meeting with business partners. Select a pair that are stylish, yet so comfortable.  Style and comfort should be your top priority while picking the right one.

Here you go – a list of six transitional pieces from summer to fall are right in front of you! Each one of them is definitely a must-have for the upcoming seasons. So, make sure that you have at least some of these. Trust us, such pieces will make your life much easier!

Child Birth Essentials For Your Overnight Bag

tips for packing hospital bag

Getting ready for child birth is huge for all expecting mothers. It can be stressful trying to get everything ready, especially if you are a new mom and aren’t sure exactly what to expect. You may not have complete control over the birth, but, thankfully, there is one thing that you can sort before you need to leave for the hospital.  That is your overnight bag. Every expectant mom needs to take an overnight bag with her so she can be as comfortable as possible during the birth. There are also things you should take that your newborn will need.  Here are some of the essentials you shouldn’t forget:

Comfortable Clothing

It is very important to take something light and stretchy to wear while you are in labor and when you leave the hospital. Going through labor can be extremely uncomfortable for many women.  Hospitals will provide one of their gowns or you can take your own.  Make sure the gown that you take is one that you don’t mind getting ruined.  Additionally, remember to pack soft T-shirts and jogging pants for the ride home.

Books And Magazines

Once admitted to the hospital, many women have to wait hours before they give birth.  You will be having contractions during this time, but they won’t be strong enough for you to start pushing.  Before strong labor pains kick in, you will just have to wait in your hospital room. So, remember to take some books and magazines with you.  You and your partner can read and do puzzles while you wait for the baby to arrive!  You could even do some puzzles on your smartphones.

Baby Clothes

Moms cherish the day that baby goes home. So, they usually pack an outfit for the occasion.  Additionally, many parents have their baby’s picture taken prior to bringing their baby home.  So, you may want to take an outfit for the hospital picture.  Check out the newborn section at http://www.zoeyspersonalizedgifts.com/personalized-baby-bodysuits.

Snacks And Drinks

You will need to keep your energy level up while you are in labor.  The best way to do this is to have plenty of snacks with you. You will be able to get free water from the hospital.  Energy drinks that are isotonic are especially good to have with you.  Check with your mid-wife, hospital or doctor prior to your arrival.  Depending on how you intend to give birth, Natural, Epidural or C-Section may affect what you can eat or drink.

Hand Cream And Lip Balm

Women find that their lips and hands dry out a lot when they are in labor. To make sure this doesn’t irritate you too much, be sure to pack plenty of hand cream and lip balm. If your hands and lips ever feel chapped or flaky, simply massage some cream and balm in to give them extra moisture.
