We are 2 sisters who wanted to inspire and encourage all the beautiful young girls in our lives. We wanted to pamper them and give them confidence all while having fun. So we started doing Spa parties and events, everything from manicures, pedicures, facials, hair and make up. Then we started making accessories, spa products, tutus and now clothing. We started off by doing it for the girls we know, then we started going to our local street fair and then we decided to open up our very own boutique. We love what we do and we love to create unique one of a kind items, just like these precious little girls. After all playing dress up, putting on jewelry, doing your hair and make up never goes out of style. We say the fluffier the better, there is never too much sparkle and glitter you say….Yes please!! We hope that you like what we have created.

7 Easy to Grow Indoor Houseplants

Needless to say, not everyone is born with a green thumb. In fact, many are born with a special talent for destroying beauty.  However,  there have been a few lucky houseplants that have survived. It’s these that I highly recommend if you’re interested in easy to grow indoor houseplants.  Plants also have other benefits like added color to the interior and improved air quality.  So, I have a few flower gardening tips on indoor plants that I would like to share with you today.

I highly recommend the following easy to grow indoor houseplants:

1.  Ponytail  Palm – This  mini-tree houses a head of long green leaves that are arranged in a way that is reminiscent of elementary school pigtails.  It is easy to care for with  just a cup of water a week.  I think I can handle that – it can grow up to 3  feet tall.
2.   Aloe Vera – Both attractive and  functional, aloe vera is a modern-looking plant with incredible healing properties. Break off one of the shoots and apply the ooze inside to sunburns  for instant relief.
3.  Autograph  Plant – This is by  far one of the coolest indoor plant options. The Clusia rosea is known as the  autograph tree.  The plant’s leaves act as the perfect host for keeping special memories. Simply sketch in your name or draw a picture and it stays  there forever – or at least as long as you keep it alive.
4.   Peace Lily – A perfect plant if you’re fighting a lot. Really,  though, there are few better plants that help clear the air. Known for its great oxidizing attributes, the peace lily – with its white-flag flower – is exceptionally easy to grow and does well in low-lit areas.

5.   Spider Plant – Noteworthy, and another no-fail green. This plant is available in variegated shades as well as monochromatic green.  It has shoots of leaves that spit out from the base like the legs of a spider.
6.   Pothos – My parents were given one of these as a housewarming gift, and it flourished  under their care, which is somewhat of a miracle considering the horticultural thumb of death runs in my family. Seriously, though: You can start with a small pot of pothos, and before you know it, a blazing trail of green starts to take over.

indoor houseplants
7.   English Ivy – This is the perfect choice for ridding your home of  litter air. English  Ivy can help break down and reduce the amount of fecal matter in the air left  behind by your beloved furballs. It is, however, toxic to animals and kids; so keep it out of their reach.
Last, try out these seven indoor houseplants options, and may the Gods shine upon them – and your thumb with favor.

Heirloom Tomatoes & Their Characteristics

Today, I’m sharing gardening tips on heirloom tomatoes and characteristics.  First, I have my tomato plants under the grow lights, and hopefully I will be tilling the garden in a few weeks.  I believe the last frost date in Zone 6B is around May 15.  When I think of backyard vegetable gardening, heirloom tomatoes on a BLT is the first thing to come to mind.  They take up much of the space in my backyard vegetable garden.
heirloom tomatoes

Why?  Because they have a totally different taste from store brought tomatoes and hybrid tomatoes. It’s hard to describe the flavor of a tomato, it must be experienced. I’m a visual person, so I thought you would like to see the end result of what is being planted in my garden.  Additionally, learn a few characteristics of my favorite tomatoes.  Also, I hope this information will help you make a decision on what tomatoes you want to purchase before you buy from your local garden center.

Before you select your tomato plants, decide how you want to use your tomatoes.  Do you want to use them for sandwiches slices, make sauce, paste or salsa.  Or do you want to use them in salads?  Will you canning them?  I love slicing tomatoes in the summer and just eating them with a little mayo and pepper. Yum! I also make salsa, sauce, freeze them and can my harvest, so I need a variety in my garden.

Heirloom Tomatoes and Characteristics:

1. Brandywine Pink (HeirloomFirst, I like this tomato for its color and taste. How often do you see a pink tomato? The Brandywine Pink has a sweet taste, so I use it on sandwiches and as my go to when I want my sliced tomatoes with mayo. I also cut these in cubes for salads and tacos. I grow the Brandywine Red and Brandywine Yellow as well.

2. Hillybilly (Heirloom) –  Next, the Hillbilly originated in my home state West Virginia. The color is a mix of yellow and red. It is delicious and has a sweet taste. It slices beautifully. I also add it to fresh salsa or salads.

3. Yellow Beefsteak (Hybrid) –  So, I like the size of this tomato. It’s great for slicing.  The tomato is large and it’s great for thick slices.  Also, I add it to salads and salsa. I have a mixture of beefsteak seeds, so I don’t know if I’m going to get red, yellow, orange or green. It’s always nice to see what the end result is in the garden.

4. Brandywine Yellow (Heirloom) –  This tomato has a better taste that the
Brandywine Pink, but it doesn’t produce as many tomatoes and it’s the last tomato plant in the garden to produce fruit. If you find that you like this tomato, you may want to double the amount of plants in your garden and stalk them well. They produce fruit up to 2 pounds each. Very pretty in salads or slices.

5. Cherokee Purple (Heirloom)  – This tomato has beautiful deep burgundy color. The flavor is bold. This tomato is what home gardening is about, and no home kitchen garden is complete without at least one plant.

6.  Amish Paste (Heirloom)This is the tomato that I use for sauce. It’s a plum tomato that is meaty. I also use for salsa. Be warned, this plant grows hardy amounts of fruit that will topple your cage if not heavily stalked.

7. Better Boy (Hybrid) One of the most popular if not the most popular tomato in the garden. This is the slicer of all slicers and great on burgers. Nice medium size tomato that you can’t go wrong planting.

8.  Early Girl (Hybrid)Another kitchen garden favorite.  As result, I plant Early Girl because it produces early and it’s a great slicer.  Early Girl is perfect on burgers as well as my go to for tomatoes and mayo.

9. Paul Robeson (Heirloom) Last, this tomato is called the luxury tomato. It is named for Paul Robeson who was considered elegant, renowned, and charismatic. I think this is my favorite tomato.  I remember the first time I tasted this tomato, I fell in love.  Because the taste is indescribably delicious, it will have a place in my garden if no other makes it way in.
Heirloom tomatoes are not know for their beauty, but their taste.  The crack and have other blemishes, but the taste remains superior.  I hope that you found my list of favorite heirloom tomatoes beneficial.  You may also like:  10 Benefits of Vegetable Gardening.

17 Tips To Help Your Child Make Friends

Just like adults, every child has a desire to make friends. They want to be invited to parties, sleep-overs, and have playmates on the playground. It’s a natural instinct, but they may need a little help in reaching out to another child. Children develop friendships differently from adults, they must first learn social skills. These skills include learning how to communicate, solve problems, cooperate, and negotiate (share). Here are a few parenting tips to how to help your child make friends:

Create opportunities for your child to interact with other children:

  1. Set up play dates – First, have your child invite others over to play. Set up a play date with a few of their school mates and family members at your local Chuck E Cheese or other pizza place. The local arcade is a great meeting place. If there is a child who may not be able to afford the outing, pay it forward. Please let their parents know that you will be covering the bill.
  2. Have a party  – Have your child invite a few school mates over and serve your child’s favorite snacks. Encourage them to reach out to others who may be alone on the playground or in the  lunch room.
  3. Host sleep overs – Children love sleepovers. Have your child invite a few school mates over on a Friday or Saturday night. They can watch movies or listen to you tell stories.
  4. Have a cookie baking day –  Next, have your child invite a few friends over on a Saturday and bake cookies or cupcakes with them. If you have boys, grill hot dogs or order pizza.
  5. Involve your child in activities – Ballet, swim lessons or organized sports are the perfect place to meet other children, work as a team, and interact.
  6. Alternate with other parents driving the children to and from various activities – I was a carpool mom for years and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Show Support and Help Your Child Resolve Problems:

  1. Problems will arise with friends and family – Listen to your child when they talk. They will tell you what they’re thinking in their own way and words.
  2. Ask questions  – Also, help your child think about the problem and find a possible solution.
  3. Get to know the parent’s of your child’s friends – You can learn a lot about interacting with the adults. Get dad involved too.
  4. Let your child know that not everyone can or wants to be friends  – There’s nothing wrong with either person, sometimes people just don’t get along or their interests change over the years. Explain this to your child.

Be An Example for Your Child:

  1. Show your child how you interact with your friends – They will learn from you.
  2. Give your friends lots of compliments – This will boost your friend’s self-esteem, but also teach your child to give compliments to their friends.
  3. Laugh!  – Your child will learn to have a sense of humor.
  4. Hug – Your children will see you hugging your friends and know that it’s okay.
  5. Avoid arguments – Don’t argue with your friends in front of your children. If it’s unavoidable explain to your child that it’s okay to have a disagreement and work out your issues.
  6. Be social with your friends –  Let you child know that you’re going shopping with Kara or having dinner Donna.
  7. Show your child that friendships and relationships are two way streets – Both people must give and take in friendships and relationships.

I always felt out of place when I was growing up.  Coming from an alcoholic/dysfunctional home makes you feel alone.  I started to become comfortable being alone.  As a result,  I started writing, reading and drawing to occupy myself.  I would walk around by myself going nowhere really, just wandering.  I started coming out of my shell in Junior High and became more sociable through high school and beyond.  But, to this day I would rather be alone blogging, sipping coffee and watching old movies. The majority of my friendships were made during childhood. We are still my friends to this day.

My daughter was more outgoing. She attended parties, had sleep overs and went to social events regularly.  Roller skating, fishing with the neighborhood kids, and running track.  Furthermore, she danced for 12 years, was a high school cheerleader and attended sporting events of her cousins.  There were many opportunities to socialize during her youth.  However, she’s also comfortable being alone.  She loves to read, draw, listen to music and write in her diary. Friends that she made during her childhood are still friends to this day as well..

Last, these tips have been tried and are true. We are using the same techniques with my grandchildren.  So far, they’re working just fine. Lead the way and your children will follow.  Most importantly, they will develop meaningful friendships that will last a lifetime.

Blogging Tips From On The Scene With Mrs. Kathy King

This is the first interview of a series that I will be doing on Mother 2 Mother.  First, my goal is to  provide resources and information that will assist beginner bloggers and others who wish to grow their blog. Hopefully, the tips will help bloggers who are interested in turning their hobby into a professional site.  My interviews will be with Professional Bloggers who have already achieved this  goal, and are willing to share a few tips and tricks to help others succeed.

Today I’m On the Scene with Mrs. Kathy King.  Let’s begin the interview:
Question 1 – Please tell our readers a little about yourself:

Mrs. Kathy King – “I’m just me. It’s only by the grace of God I’m even where I’m at.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be blogging.  One of the reasons why I blog is so I can be home with my daughter. When I first started blogging I had just changed my job.  I’m a corporate girl, I got laid off.  I was making six figures, so I figured that it would be better for me to learn how to save money now that I had lost my job. This was after 2008, I didn’t know if the market would ever allow me to make six figures again. I made a conscious effort to learn how to save money.”

“My hobby, couponing, turned into an actual site; however, things changed. I started reporting the best deals, anything that was family friendly that moms could enjoy. “It took me about six months to grow my following from 1 follower to 16,000 on Facebook.”

“In 2013, I started going to actual blogger conventions; however, my passion had changed. My true passion is my family, and my daughter.  After going to a couple of amazing blogger conventions which I recommend anyone who wants to be successful blogging, they have to invest time to go to blogger conventions. If they don’t have the money they never know what God can do because in 2013, I didn’t have the budget to afford it, but I noticed where some of the places where giving away scholarships.  I applied to the different scholarships and two of the places I wanted to go I actually received scholarship funds. You never know what God can do.  I was blessed to go.”

“I did something that most bloggers fear, fear. So, I decided to change my site. By this time I had already invested 2 ½ – 3 years into my site, and I decided I don’t want a Deal Blog. I’m going to change my entire name. I went from being a Deal Blogger to actually putting myself in front of my audience.  Because I was in marketing, I think that the more you put yourself in front of your audience and the more you. Brand your blog as yourself, the better of a Brand you get.  I was in marketing for years before starting my site.  So I know that it was important to put yourself in front of your audience because it helps to establish a relationship and build a brand.”The huge risks were:

1.  Would my fans like it?
2. Would they be receptive?
3. Would they think I had an ego?

“By the end of 2014, my fans loved it. My user engagement increased and my fan loyalty increased.  People like seeing a real face, a real woman in front instead of just being behind a blog name.“
Question 2 – Where you already on WordPress? There’s a debate going on as to whether bloggers can be successful on the Blogger platform.

Mrs. Kathy King – “In  the beginning of my blog I started off on Blogger. Because of my Marketing
background I wanted to change for these reasons:

1.      You get better SEO
2.     Better capabilities
3.     You own the database
4.     Better opportunities

Most people stay on Blogger for these reasons:

1.  They don’t want to spend the money
2.  Fear
3.  Their blog is a hobby

If you want to make your blog a business, you should move to WordPress.  I started on a VPN server and than as my site grew, I was blessed to move to a Dedicated server.”

Question 3 – Share your  experience when you attended the World Premiere of CinderellaI
followed you on Facebook, and my favorite pictures where when you were on the red carpet and the one with you standing beside Cinderella’s ball gown.

Mrs. Kathy King – “Cinderella is every girl’s dream. Everyone wants to see their Fairy God
Mother. It was one of the most amazing experiences that God could have ever
given me. It was a very diverse group of bloggers that attended.  At the end of the day, Cinderella is
universal.  J.C. Penny provided hair
stylists, a makeup artist and light hor d’oeuvres.  They accessorized you; it was the first time
that I was sponsored and Sydney’s Closet, a major dress company, sent me the perfect dress. It was amazing.”
Question 4 – How do you connect with Brands?

Mrs. Kathy King – There are several ways to connect with Brands:

1.   Add yourself to CISION
2.  Send them a letter. Provide your stats. Look  professional from your posts.
3.  Follow Brands on Tweeter. Their social media people live on Twitter.
4. Brands are watching you. Start writing about Brands that you like. Not everything has to be given to you.

“A touchy subject is to charge. Your time is valuable.  Make sure everything you do on your site
benefits your fans and your home. Make sure you value yourself. Do I charge for everything? I do not, but I now have a clear understanding of the time it takes for me to do a social selfie, send out a tweet, write a sponsored post or video. Therefore, I charge and schedule my time accordingly.”Make sure your blog works for you. What does money look like to you?  What does payment look like to you?  I even charge to tweet. I’ve become more of a helpful tips kind of site instead of a product
review site. If you have questions on whom you can charge or not change email me at me@MrsKathyKing.com. “

“Get an editorial calendar and write in series.  For example, I write several Cinderella posts.  I have several Easter posts and I like them. You have to have your own voice before you follow other bloggers because you just end up copying them. That’s not fair to them and that makes people not like you.

Make your theme work for you. With events, Disney is  something I do for fun.  The DVDs are  something I do for my fans and I have a 2 year old.  So of course owning a DVD collection is a  great thing to do.”
Question 5 – What advice would you give bloggers on how to promote their on-line presence on
Facebook and Twitter?

Mrs. Kathy King – “The reason why Facebook and Twitter are my biggest followings is because Facebook
was the number one social media when I first started, so that’s what I focused on building. Twitter was the second venue, so those were the two things I focused on building. Although in the end I should have focused on Twitter
instead of Facebook.”
  • Facebook is about engagement. It’s about sharing other people’s information. Become more of a
curator.  Share videos and people’s stuff.
  • Twitter is about engagement too. Talk to people and retweet with other bloggers.
  • Pinterest is about being consistent. Pin popular pins. Make sure your pins are being shared
too. Invest in blogger social media groups. Groups that like to share each other pins and tweets.
  • Instagram is about sharing pictures.
  • Growing your fan base isn’t about getting your fan base
right out the door. It takes time.
Question 6 – If you had 2 minutes to give new bloggers advice, what would it be?
Mrs. Kathy King – “Don’t get stressed because you don’t know what your own voice is, because it
takes time. Know your worth and do not sell yourself short. If you want this to be your full time job, have the courage to go in there with a price because you never know if they’re willing to pay.”

Kathy is a Social Media Strategist, Pro Blogger & Influencer. When she is not blogging or promoting Brands On The Scene With Mrs. Kathy King, she enjoys spending time with her husband Matt and their 3 children. Kathy and her family reside in Long Beach, CA.
